The Huskies take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the Bahamas as the two teams kick off the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. Going into the season, this is a game that I think many fans were certainly looking forward to, but seldom expected the Huskies to come away victorious. However after an 3-0 start that has seen the team pull out a gusty win over the Texas Longhorns and destroy two (albeit over-matched) opponents, expectations for this game among the fan-base.seem to have shifted a bit. The Huskies raw athleticism and talent alone have many Husky fans believing that the team can win virtually any game on the schedule, and many are starting to think that this team has flashed enough to show that they may end up as a tournament team come March.
The Bulldogs will provide the Huskies one of their stiffest tests of the year. Kyle Wiljter , Domantas Sabonis, and Przemek Karnowski are one of the best big men trios in all the land and will provide the young Huskies big men a very tough test. The Huskies are currently leading the country in total rebounds a game, pulling down 57.33 rebounds per contest. If that is still the case after tonight, that in itself is impressive, regardless of the outcome.
The Zags are also tied for eighth in scoring in the nation, as they average 96.0 points per contest. The Huskies aren't far behind, averaging 93.7 points per game which is good for 11th highest in the country. This should be a battle of strength versus strength as both teams have shown that they can fill it up.
This game should be a great litmus test for the Huskies and should tell us how far ahead of the curve the Huskies are at this point in the season. If the big men can keep themselves out of foul trouble and the team can limit their turnovers, there is a good chance that they will be in a position to win this game.
Should be a fun one. Please leave your thoughts on the game below and as always, GO DAWGS!
