How to Watch and Listen to the Huskies: Audio Stream - TuneIn; Online Video Stream - WatchESPN

History

This is the third game of this series, which is currently sitting at 1-1. Both teams lost their respective home games, with the Cowboys losing 24-18 in 1980 and the Huskies losing 31-17 in 1985. How fitting that the rubber match takes place in a neutral bowl game?

In Stillwater, back in 1980, the Cowboys out-gained the Huskies 376-367. However, they lost three fumbles, including one that was reminiscent of what happened to the Huskies against Arizona. Oklahoma scored to get the score to 24-18. They kicked the ball onside, the Huskies recovered, and then went three and out, and then punted the ball. On the ensuing drive, the Cowboys fumbled the ball one last time, and the Huskies were able to run out the clock.

In Husky Stadium, in 1985, the 16th ranked Cowboys came to visit the 12th ranked Huskies. The Huskies led the game until part way through third quarter, when the game got out of hand. Oklahoma State star Thurman Thomas carried the ball 40 times or 237 yards and a score, which is still the most of any Husky opponent in history. The Huskies turned the ball over 4 times.

Numbers

I wonder if I could pass for 600 yards in a game as a Wazzu QB?

16 - The number of picks Cowboy QBs have thrown this year.

17 - The number of TDs Cowboy QBs have thrown this year.

31 - The number of sacks the Cowboys have picked up this year against opposing offenses.

49.5 - Completion Percentage for Cowboy QBs against ranked teams.

54.5 - Completion Percentage for Cowboy QBs

128.75 - Rushing yards per game for Cowboy RBs against ranked teams.

135.33 - Rushing yards per game for Cowboy RBs

Questions Needing Answers

Offense:

What will the offensive line do against the formidable Cowboy pass rush? Which Husky RB will have the most yards? How many passing yards will Cyler Miles have by the end of the game?

Defense:

Who is going to have the most sacks at the end of the game? Will the young secondary continue to hold up? Can we finally have some more defensive touchdowns?

Miscellaneous:

Will this be another 9 win season? Who else is excited about a warm weather game ... assuming it's not like that Alamo bowl a couple of years ago?

Conclusion

This is a game of two pretty similar teams, with similar seasons. Both teams want to end this season with a win to appease their fan bases. I have to give the nod to the Huskies. They have three all-americans on the defensive side of the football, and the Husky pass rush is going to wreak havoc, forcing more than one interception, which should be the difference maker. Cyler Miles and the Husky rushing attack will be just enough on the offensive side of the ball to keep the Cowboys at bay.

Vegas Odds

Courtesy of VegasInsider, the Huskies are 7 point favorites this week. The Huskies still have yet to lose a game when favored this year. The line for the game is 57.5. I would take the under ... as the Dawgs have been under the line in 9 of 12 games this season. The Huskies covered the spread last week, and now their record against the spread is 7-6. , finally above .500

Gamethread

Come on over to the game thread to have a little bit of jovial banter, to put it nicely, with fellow Dawg fans, and the occasional troll, you'll be happy you did, so long as every single play goes exactly right. Otherwise, feel free to jump in and add to the communal vitriol. I wager we'll see at least 52 calls for Jonathan Smith's job, 92.5 f-bombs, and the over-under for spiteful Coach Pete comments at 127. It opens up a half hour or so before kickoff.
