The Husky pass defense continued to be suspect, as the EWU attack kept chunking its way down the field and into Husky territory. The defense looked to have Vernon Adams corralled for a sack, but he slipped out of it and picked up a nice gain to keep Eastern in a manageable 3rd down situation. Budda Baker put his mark on the game as he broke up the 3rd down pass which he would have intercepted if not for contact with Hau'oli Kikaha. After a timeout to talk things over, EWU decided to go for it on 4th down, a wide open throw to Cooper Kupp was another EWU touchdown.
A kickoff out of bounds gave the Huskies excellent starting field position for their next drive. Cyler Miles immediately connected on a quick pass over the middle to Darrell Daniels, and a couple of plays later gave John Ross the ball on a quick screen which he took up the sideline for a 55 yard touchdown. The Huskies were back up 10 at 31-21.
Another EWU drive, but the song remained the same. They moved their way right down the field, into UW territory, until a pass over the top from Adams connected in the endzone for a touchdown. 31-28 UW.
The Huskies went to work pounding the rock with Lavon Coleman, losing a yard, picking up a chunk, then busting a big one 54 yards to inside the 5 yard line. Dwayne Washington took the ball to the promised land two plays later for UW's 4th TD on the ground for the day. Cameron Van Winkle missed the PAT. 37-28 UW.
Danny Shelton's second sack of the game put EWU in a bad situation, but a draw and a scramble drill by Adams gave them the conversion. The Huskies decided to change things up a bit, and not stop the run on this particular series. A breakup by Marcus Peters forced EWU into a 3rd and 9, but a Hau'oli Kikaha sack was negated by him being offside, give EWU another shot at third down, but again Kikaha made a play, knocking an Adams pass down and forcing an EWU field goal to cut the UW lead to 6.
A squib kick recovered by Travis Feeney gave UW great field position with 1:25 left. Deontae Cooper took the ball off tackle for 14 yards, but three Cyler Miles incompletions caused the drive to end in a punt, which was downed at the two yard line by Budda Baker and the Husky coverage unit.
Eastern would keep the ball on the ground to end the half at 37-31.
