Husky defenders Danny Shelton, Marcus Peters, Shaq Thompson, and Hau'oli Kikaha have all been named to the Nagurski Watch List, the award which is given annually to the Football Writers Assosiation of America's National Defensive Player of the Year.
As we diehards already knew, the Husky defense is loaded for 2014, particularly along the defensive front, where six starters return, and half of them are in contention for being the national DPOY. In addition, the defense has stars along all levels of its defense, with Shelton on the defensive line, Kikaha as something of a DL/LB tweener hybrid, Thompson at linebacker, and Peters in the secondary.
The four players in this watch list for UW were tied for the most of any school, with the only other school having four being Stanford. The Pac-12 also led all conferences with 18 players named, doubly impressive when you consider the Pac-12's membership is smaller than the three of the other four major conferences. But remember, the Pac-12 doesn't play defense (PAWWWWWL).
Shelton was also named to the Outland Trophy Watch List for the nation's top interior lineman.
