NCAA Baseball Tournament: Washington Loses To Ole Miss In Regional Finals

The Huskies fought the Rebels into extra innings, but couldn't get the bats going and were eliminated from the postseason.

It was a tight contest with Mississippi taking a one run lead, the Huskies tying it the next, taking the lead a couple of innings later, only to have the Rebels tie it right back up. The teams seemed evenly matched throughout the entire game -- and even through the nearly two hour rain delay that the teams endured.

The game pushed into extra innings deadlocked at 2-2, and in the 10th inning Ole Miss's Sikes Orvis hit a triple down the first base line to give UM a 3-2 advantage. The bottom of the 10th came and the Dawgs went

The UW pitching effort was a by-committee, joint effort in which Will Ballowe, Brandon Choate, Troy Rallings, Alex Nesbitt, and Trevor Dunlap combined for 10 innings pitched 11 hits allowed and 3 walks, but surrendered just 3 runs.

The season is over for the Huskies, but it was a season of progress and one to build on. The Dawgs made their first postseason in a decade, and did so with just five seniors on the roster of 35 total players. With most of their core players coming back in 2015 they should have an excellent chance of returning to the postseason a year from now.
