As good as Tyler Davis was for UW yesterday, Christian Trent was that for Ole Miss today through six innings. The Huskies couldn't get anything going off of him until the 7th inning, when three consecutive singles made the game interesting. UW pitcher Jeff Brigham had a great outing of his own, going 7 innings and surrendering just 2 runs.
Brigham cruised through the first three innings, but got into a bit of trouble in the bottom of the 4th. He allowed the first two batters on, and after getting a strikout allowed an RBI double to Ole Miss's DH J.B. Woodman. A failed squeeze attempt resulting in a rundown gave the Huskies the second out of the inning, and they ultimately escaped giving up just the one run.
Auston Bousfield put UM up 2-0 with a solo shot in the 5th inning.
Robert Pehl's RBI single knocked in Trevor Mitsui in the 7th, while a throwing error on the play allowed runners to advance. UW was looking at a prime situation with runners at 2nd and 3rd and one out, but a strikeout and a lineout ended the rally with the Huskies still down a run.
WIll Ballowe came in for a 1-2-3 bottom of the 8th inning in relief, but the Dawg bats couldn't bark in the 9th as the Huskies fell to the losers' side of the bracket.
The Huskies have about enough time to get a breath and a glass of water before taking right back to the field for a rematch with Georgia Tech, broadcast on ESPN3.
