Washington's basketball family has lost one of their most cherished names as Bob Houbregs has passed away at the age of 82. Houbregs played for the Huskies from 1951-1953, leading the program to their only NCAA Final Four appearance as a Senior. He went on to become the first Husky hoops player to have his jersey - number 25 - retired. He left the program as the all-time leading scorer and rebounder, and still ranks 4th in scoring and 6th in rebounds. He is still the only consensus All-American, and was also named the NCAA Player of the Year his senior year (1953). He is a member of the Husky Hall of Fame, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame.
Our thoughts go out to the Houbregs family.
