The Pac-12 announced today that Andrew Andrews will be one of thirteen players headed to China as part of the Pac-12 all-star team. Andrews, who will be a redshirt junior next season, will represent the UW as players from 10 Pac-12 schools will play four games against teams from the Chinese Basketball Association, China's professional basketball league.
The trip is part of the Pac-12's Global Initiative, aimed to support the international outreach efforts of the Pac-12 universities along with providing a educational and cultural experience for student-athletes.
The team will depart for China on August 10 and return on either the 19th or 20th. Oregon and UCLA are the only schools not represented on the roster, as their academic schedules conflicted with the tour dates. The 10-day tour will be the first all-star trip for the Pac-12 since they sent both a men's and women's team to Japan in 1996.
Andrews finished his redshirt sophomore season with a 12.3 points per game average. Over the final six games of the 2013-14 season, Andrews averaged 17.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
Andrews wont be the only Husky headed to China in the near future. In 2015, the UW will play a nonconference game against Texas in China. It will be the first time teams in any major US sport will play a regular season game in China.
