Friday's NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen TV Times, Channel Guide and Open Thread

Jonathan Daniel

Here are the storylines for Friday:

No. 2 Michigan vs. No. 11 Tennessee | Tennessee has made all the way from the First Four in Dayton to the Sweet Sixteen, following in the footsteps of La Salle last season, and VCU who made it to the Final Four from the inaugural First Four in 2011. Michigan has been without big man Mitch McGary, who keyed their Championship Game run last season.

No. 3 Iowa State vs. No. 8 UConn | Connecticut's Shabazz Napier took over the end of UConn's Third Round game against Villanova, scoring 21 of his 25 points in the second half, including three dagger threes, with one coming from about 30 feet out. Iowa State lost arguably its best player Georges Niang at the end of its Second Round game, and was able to take down North Carolina in the Regional Quarterfinals.

No. 4 Louisville vs. No. 8 Kentucky | Louisville dominated the AAC tournament, winning every game by big margins. The Cardinal have been less impressive in the Tournament: a rough game against Manhattan was followed by a stroke of luck where St. Louis missed all 15 of its three-point attempts in a 15-point victory. In-state rival Kentucky had what was heralded the "Best Recruiting Class in History" by many. After struggling at times during the regular season, the Wildcats upset the undefeated Wichita State Shockers.

No. 1 Virginia vs. No. 4 Michigan State | Virginia is coached by Tony Bennett, the old Wazzu head coach, and has one of the most efficient offenses in the country despite the methodical offense, along with one of the best defenses in the country, leading to its status as a No. 1 Seed. Michigan State is finally mostly healthy after dealing with way too many injuries throughout the season. If you can only catch one game, make it this one.
