USA TODAY Sports

Weekend Recap

Game 1: Washington 6, Santa Clara 4- The Huskies had 11 hits and starter Jared Fisher struck out five in six innings as the Huskies opened the tournament with a win against host Santa Clara. Senior Brian Wolfe, junior Alex Schmidt, and sophomore Braden Bishop all had 2 hits for the Huskies. Thursdays victory was the UW's slimmest margin of victory for the tournament.

Game 2: Washington 7, San Jose State 0- Junior Robert Pehl became just the second Husky in the last 19 years  to hit for the cycle in the UW's blowout win over the Spartans. Pehl finished the night 4 for 5 with four RBIs and two runs scored, and the Huskies pounded out a season-high 16 hits. Junior Tyler Davis pitched five innings of shutout ball to improve to 3-1 on the season.

Game 3: Washington 4, Pacific 1- Three Husky relievers pitched 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief as the UW earned its third victory of the weekend. Junior Alex Schmidt belted his third home run of the season, and solo shot that tied the game 1-1 in the fourth inning. Senior Brian Wolfe's two run single in the eighth inning gave the Huskies some extra insurance. Freshman Henry Baker earned the win, pitching one and 1/3 innings in relief.

Game 4: Washington 9, Santa Clara 1 In a rematch of Thursday's opener, the Huskies finished the tournament with a blowout victory over Santa Clara. Sophomore Braden Bishop led the UW at the plate, finishing 3 for 6 with three runs scored. Junior Jeff Brigham improved to 3-0 on the season after pitching five scoreless innings. Junior Andrew Ely finished 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs.

Top Performers

Juniors Tyler Davis and Jeff Brigham are a combined 6-1 for the Huskies through 15 games in 2014. Both starters hold ERAs under 2.00 and have combined to give up just seven  runs on the season.

Coming Up

The Huskies open up Pac-12 play as they travel to Tempe, Ariz. to face the Arizona State Sundevils in a three-game series beginning Friday. The Sundevils currently stand at 8-6 on the season. In 2013, Arizona State finished fourth in the Pac-12 with an overall record of 37-22-1.
