Drew Sample, Tight End
Rankings: 31 3* Scout / NR 2* Rivals / 54 3* 247
Offer sheet: Boise State
Sample is a guy that the previous staff had viewed as more of a plan B or plan C guy, but Chris Petersen and his staff had gotten a commitment from him when they were at Boise, and knew that he was the type of player they wanted to bring in. They made him a priority, and flipped him from BSU to UW rather quickly. Once the hometown Huskies came calling, the Broncos had no shot of holding onto him.
Sample will likely redshirt, then compete to get playing time pretty quickly in his career. He's a willing blocker in the run game (and looks to have something of a nasty streak there at times) so it's easy to see him forcing his way onto the field in that aspect alone. There's ample opportunity for the TE position to get on the field with the departure of Austin Seferian-Jenkins to the NFL, though we've yet to see how Jonathan Smith and Chris Petersen will deploy the position in their offense.
