Roughly 2.5 weeks after shaking up the west coast recruiting scene by de-committing from Oregon, Budda Baker has made his final choice known, deciding to play for Washington and new coach Chris Petersen. Baker is the top-ranked recruit in the state and the PNW region, a consensus 4-star recruit rated just outside the top-50 players in the country.
A dynamic athlete, Baker projects at a number of positions, from RB to WR to CB to S. Oregon envisioned him as the next De'Anthony Thomas, but his heart is on defense, and that's where he's expected to play for the Huskies. With graduation hitting the UW secondary hard, playing time is there to be had.
This is a huge recruiting win for Petersen, as he fends off UCLA and Jim Mora and lands the top 2 prospects in the state this year. With a number of top local prospects heading out of state in recent years, this is welcome news to Husky fans eager to build a recruiting fence around the state. It also helps mend a perception that the connection between the UW and Bellevue - the state's premier H.S. football program - was not strong.
Baker will be joining several of his Wolverine teammates tomorrow morning at 7AM to officially sign and submit their LOI forms to their respective Universities of choice.
Here is an extensive collection of his Junior & Senior season highlights - sit back and enjoy!
