Player to Watch: Richard Solomon
Bio: A 6'10 senior from Los Angeles, Solomon has been a key contributor for the Bears since joining the team in 2010. An All-State selection his senior year at Price HS, Solomon was one of the top post prospects on the west coast for his class. During high school he played with current teammate Justin Cobbs and former teammate Allen Crabbe.
Stats: Solomon is a consistent double double for the Bears, averaging 11.5 points and a Pac-12 leading 10.5 rebounds per game. So far this season he has grabbed 10+ rebounds in 15 games. He currently ranks 6th in the Pac-12 in blocks is among the top-10 in school history. Last season against WSU, Solomon became the first player in Cal history to record at least six points, six rebounds, and six blocks in one game (7 pts., 8 reb., 6 blocks). He is the only player in the Pac-12 averaging a double double for the season
Scouting Report: Solomon is an active player who's 7'0 wingspan makes him an enforcer in the paint on the defensive end. Offensively, he is putting up his best season, shooting 57% from the field, focusing his efforts on scoring around the hoop. Solomon was known for his finesse skills in the past but has focused on adding a more physical dimension to his game. He may not be a first round pick but will definitely get a chance in the NBA.
Closing Comments
Can the Huskies just play every game at home? This team is so much more enjoyable to watch when playing in front of the home crowd. After the big win against Stanford, the Huskies could put themselves in the upper half of the Pac-12 standings with a win Saturday. With the way things sit right now, I would say this is a must win game for the Huskies if they want to have any shot at making the NCAA tournament. I think Cal's multiple weapons on offense and their size will be too much for the Huskies. Unfortunately, I'm taking the Golden Bears 78-68.
