While it's been a dead period in recruiting for the last few weeks (no in-person contact with recruits), Chris Petersen and his staff have been busy assessing where they stand and planning for the big final push towards Signing Day (February 5th). New offers have gone out and official visits have been scheduled. Avi posted an update at Pacific Takes this morning, but things change quickly when it comes to visits, and the list has already changed a bit. As of tonight, here's where things stand with known official visits this weekend according to both Scout.com and 247Sports, but until they're on campus, you have to consider these lists fluid:
- K.J. Carta-Samuels - 4-star QB prospect, was committed to Vanderbilt until James Franklin took the Penn State job and has now opened up his recruitment
- Jomon Dotson - 3-star RB prospect, currently committed to Colorado
- Greg Gaines - 3-star DT prospect, was committed to Petersen at Boise State but with the coaching change is now strongly considering Washington
- Darren Gardenhire - 3-star S prospect, formerly a WSU commit that flipped to Washington shortly after being offered by the new staff
- Jaylen Johnson - 3-star DE prospect, formerly committed to Petersen at Boise State but with the coaching change has now re-opened his recruitment; also looking at Cal, ASU, WSU and Colorado
- Khalil Oliver - 3-star S prospect, formerly committed to Petersen at Boise State but with the coaching change has now re-opened his recruitment; he's also visiting Oregon
- Dante Pettis - 3-star WR prospect, cousin of former BSU star Austin Pettis and the son of former MLB star Gary Pettis; also considering Boise State and has visited SMU
- Drew Sample - 3-star TE prospect, formerly committed to Petersen at Boise State but flipped to Washington soon after being offered by the new staff
- Kalani Vakameilalo - 3-star DT prospect, currently committed to Oregon State
- Lavon Washington - 3-star S prospect, committed to the old staff at Washington and confirmed his offer and commitment after Petersen was hired
This is obviously shaping up as a big weekend for recruiting, and next weekend could be even bigger as upper-tier targets such as Kaleb McGary, Demario Richard and Kammy Delp are currently scheduled to visit along with current commits Chase Blakely, Matt James, Brandon Lewis and Drew Lewis.
