- With the annual coaches convention concluding yesterday in Indianapolis, now is a good time for Travis Haney, an ESPN "Insider", to rank the best football hires so far this offseason. Husky fans may be interested in how Chris Petersen fared on this list (hint: pretty well)
- Ted Miller jumps on the Chris Petersen train with a pretty interesting Q&A with the new Husky head coach. There are some good tidbits related to his relationship with Justin Wilcox, the challenge of assembling this recruiting class, and how settled he has become in Seattle.
- The tab for the new Husky assistant coaching staff has been tallied. Sticker shock, anyone?
- Not included in that tab is the $300k that the University will pay Tosh Lupoi as part of his severance agreement. So long, Tosh, and good luck to you. It was a short ride, but I thought you comported yourself well despite the vitriol that was thrown your way from rival recruiters and uninformed fans.
- Rant Sports thinks that Husky QB Cyler Miles is a "Player to Watch" in 2014.
- So, Tony Wroten is doing ok with the 76ers.
- ICYMI, the Huskies got smoked by a bigger Cal team in Berkeley last night. The nature of this defeat really takes the wind out of the sails of the hot start that the Huskies had had in conference play.
- Before the game last night, the buzz around the team was the turnaround of the defensive play by the entire team. Kevin Pelton did a great analysis of this turnaround in his personal basketball blog. He notes something that our own Antony Cassino has observed in terms of the good luck that the Huskies have had with opponent 3-point percentages, but also gives credit to the tactical changes implemented by the Husky staff.
Question of the Day
The new Husky football staff includes a +$3 million budget for assistants in addition to the $3.2 million that Chris Petersen will make in his first year at Montlake. While football budgets have soared thanks to the influx of TV money, do you think that this is a responsible allocation of funds for the University? Why or why not?
