Football Dots
- On Friday, Washington won the Apple Cup, and on Monday, they lost their coach. It's a funny thing, how much one's mood can change so drastically in just 72 hours.
- Chris was a guest of Chris Sedanka on a Portland, ME sports radio show. You can find his interview at the 30 minute mark of the linked podcast.
- Sark lied Monday morning about interviewing for the SC job, and he later said that he did so because he was "looking out for the best interest of 105 kids at the University of Washington, and [the kids] here at the University of Southern California." Jerry Brewer responds with what can only be described as a derisive laugh.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Did Sark essentially say "I lied for the kids"? That's an all-timer. Ha.</p>— Jerry Brewer (@JerryBrewer) <a href="https://twitter.com/JerryBrewer/statuses/408002159746113536">December 3, 2013</a></blockquote>

- By all accounts, Jim Mora was offered the Washington job on Monday, and parlayed it into an extension through 2019, raises for himself and his staff, and a commitment from UCLA to improve its practice facilities to the tune of $50 million. My two takeaways? 1) I'm surprised that UCLA was able to rally its boosters and their wallets so quickly (two consecutive victories over USC might have had something to do with that), and 2) After rebuffing UW twice in five years, it's officially time to stop referring to the position of Washington's head football coach as Jim Mora's "dream job."
- With Mora off the board, it looks like Washington's biggest targets are Boise State head coach Chris Petersen and Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier. It's interesting to note that defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox's name isn't included in that list.
- Art Thiel thinks that Scott Woodward should settle for nothing less than hiring someone whose name will make a big splash.
- Gregg Bell has the story of how Washington's players aren't going to let Sarkisian's departure break their spirits.
- UW quarterbacks coach and all-around legend Marques Tuiasosopo has been named the program's interim coach through the bowl game.
- The Pac-12 Conference released its first- and second-team all-conference selections on Monday, naming Bishop Sankey to the first team and Hau'oli Kikaha, Marcus Peters, Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Travis Coons to the second team. Dexter Charles, Mike Criste, Micah Hatchie, Sean Parker, Keith Price, Danny Shelton and Shaq Thompson earned honorable mentions, while Sankey and Kikaha were also named to the conference's all-academic team.
- A couple of good podcasts for you to chew on: Softy convened Dick Baird and Hugh Millen for an emergency meeting of the Husky Honks on Tuesday, and the Dawgman.com guys got together for an early edition of their usual Wednesday show. Both shows primarily discuss UW's coaching search, and where it goes now that Mora is out of the running. Spoiler alert: Both shows feature a lot of love for Doug Nussemeier.
Other Dots
- The Husky men's basketball team escaped with a double-overtime win against Long Beach State on Saturday, with a final score of 92-89. The hardwood Dawgs have been characterized by two things this year en route to their 4-3 start: shoddy defense, and a roster absolutely ravaged by injuries.
- The women's volleyball team finished the season with a 28-2 record, and enter the NCAA Tournament with the No. 3 seed. They take on Alabama State at 7:30 p.m. Pacific this Saturday in the tournament's first round. Let's hear it for junior Krista Vansant, who was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year, and coach Jim McLaughlin, who was recognized as the Pac-12 Coach of the Year!
- Assistant Athletic Director Carter Henderson tweeted out a photo of the ongoing construction at Washington's baseball field as it undergoes a $19 million facelift. The stadium is on schedule for its unveiling on March 21, 2014.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Visited <a href="https://twitter.com/UW_Baseball">@UW_Baseball</a> stadium site. - The Lady Dawgs improved to 2-2 with a win over Houston on Wednesday night, with a final score of 66-55.
Question of the Day
-
Clearly, the No. 1 question on the mind of Washington sports fans is who will be hired to lead the football team in the coming years. As of this writing, the favorites to land the job are Chris Petersen and Doug Nussemeier, but Tim Deruyter, Justin Wilcox and James Franklin are all viable options. How do you see Woodward's coaching search turning out?
