Drew Sample is a 6-5, 235 tight end currently at Newport High School in Bellevue WA. Scout.com has him rated as the #31 TE prospect in the country.

The previous coaching staff did not offer him a scholarship, but coach Petersen and new quarterbacks coach Jonathan Smith decided to offer him one earlier in the week. It didn't take long for Sample to make up his mind to become a Husky; he had been waiting on a UW offer since the start of his recruitment.

It is somewhat curious that the old staff did not offer Sample. He's a local prospect with a good body and tight end is a position of need in this class. Austin Seferian-Jenkins may not be around next year, Evan Hudson switched to the defensive side of the ball, and Michael Hartvigson will be a senior in 2014. Beyond that, Joshua Perkins has shown to be a capable receiver, but it's still unknown if he can be a complete player at the position, and David Ajamu is still a complete unknown after redshirting his true freshman season.

They could probably use two bodies at the position, so with Chase Blakley already in the boat and Sample now joining him, they look to be done at TE for this class. They've got two solid prospects and now a good amount of youth going forward.

In the past week, the new staff has gotten commitments from 3 star players Jojo MacIntosh (S), Darren Gardenhire (S), Jalen Greene (QB) and now Sample.
