Colin Porter hangs it up

Sad news out of Montlake this evening with the news that Jr OG Colin Porter will have to retire because he is suffering from degenerative arthritis in both shoulders.

Porter recently underwent operations on both shoulders during the off season which revealed the extent of the damage he had been suffering from. According to Sark the injuries date back to high school and the physicians were surprised at how extensive they were once they operated on him.

Porter when healthy had the ability to be one one of the better interior offensive linemen in the country. His loss is a crushing blow for an offensive line that is still rebuilding going into the fourth year of Sarkisian's tenure at Washington.

So James Atoe has stepped in for Porter this spring and the coaches have been pleased with his progress. Erik Kohler who started at tackle last season is another possibility but he has been slowed by nagging injuries this spring. Colin Tanigawa who is rehabbing a torn ACL won't return till this summer.
