- So much to talk about from the weekend. I guess we should start with a Power Poll. Here is Ted Miller's - given the events of the weekend, he dropped Oregon to #3. If the criteria for your poll is "performance to date" then, yeah, #3 makes sense. If your criteria is "best teams in the conference", then this is just nuts.
- Speaking of Oregon, I can't help but to link to Matt Daddy's call for blood - most notably Chip Kelly's. I link to this because it is an interesting take with lots of debate in the comments. Please don't go over there and troll. There is no class in it and we will enforce our anti-trolling policies.
- Don't worry Matt, Bud Withers hasn't written Oregon out of the BCS National Championship picture just yet.
- It is the most wonderful time of the year - Coaching Carousel Season. Even with the national championship discussion now somewhat off the table, Chip Kelly is still a huge topic of conversation. Condotta linked to this article from Jason La Canfora which makes some interesting points about how NFL executives are reading the tea leaves on the Oregon investigation and what Chip might be thinking in terms of employment next year.
- Speaking of the Carousel, we already have a handful of coaches who have been sacked. Here is a rundown of who they are and who might be waiting in the wings. Prepare to spend much of the early offseason on Gruden watch.
- Not on the list yet is Jeff Tedford who, somehow, survived his meeting with AD Sandy Barbour yesterday. Rumors were that there was a team meeting last night - not sure if this was a normal season wrap-up meeting or something less pleasant for Tedford and his staff. I expect we'll know today.
- The Huskies did play this past weekend - and they played pretty well once you subtract the first half from your memory. Condotta wrote about the Defense that has pretty much answered most calls this season. Even with the Oregon, Arizona and LSU debacles calculated in, it is hard to not look at this unit and say that almost all expectations have been exceeded (yes, I know we still have pass rush problems).
- Jack Follman has his good, bad and ugly from the Colorado game. It is a good sign when you have to get nit-picky about the "bads".
- Divish has his recap of the weekend action noting that the Huskies are well on their way to their 9 win goal for the season.
- The Special Teams is part of the story from this weekend - in particular Kevin Smith. KS credited his love of basketball for the play that will go down in Husky history as one of the more unusual, athletic displays ever seen in a game.
- The Huskies flipped one and picked up a TE commit over the weekend ($). WOOF!
- Speaking of recruiting, Mason Kelley has an interesting mailbag this week with some Q&A on Sark's walk-on strategy and whether or not Oregon de-commit Alex Redmond may give UW another look ($).
- Don't expect Mike Leach to divulge who will be starting at QB for the Apple Cup this week. But, go ahead, ask him any other question you like. I heard an interview with him earlier this year where he disclosed that he hates coffee because it makes him pee all the time, but will still drink it for effect. You can't make this stuff up.
- In the basketball world, things don't look good for Brandon Roy. Roy, who was to make his Rose Garden return this week, will have surgery on his right knee and will be out an indefinite period of time. Though his comments may be taken out of context, it appears that Roy is bracing himself for the worst. Thoughts of all Husky fans are with him this Thanksgiving - nobody wanted this storyline to play out.
- As Ben noted in his recap, there is only so much gas in the tank when your rotation is seven players. The Dawgs fell to the #4 Ohio State Buckeyes 77-66 after showing some hanging power. Here are the highlights
- Dybas has some news and notes from the game.
- The #6 UW Volleyball team, down their best player, stunned #4 Oregon in what appears to have been one of wildest matches of the season. Maybe someone on the blog was there and can give us some insights on the game and the atmosphere.
- The Huskies Men's Soccer team took on Creighton in the first round of the NCAAs in what was a Back to the Future moment for the Coach Clark. Alas, it was not to be as the #8 Creighton team easily handled the Dawgs 4-2.
- Much has been made about the P12 Networks incredulity at the deal done with the Lakers Network and DirecTV. Ron Judd has his own unique take on the influence of the P12N on the UW as well as a sundry of other items of note.
That's it Dawgs. Don't forget that this is Apple Cup week. I fully expect you all to be wearing out the Fanposts and Fanshots with Apple Cup jokes, stories of road trips gone good or bad, and whatever other Apple Cup debauchery you have in mind. I will remind you that WSU has had a horrible season and, well, some of your friends and colleagues may not be in the bantering mood. Tread lightly as I don't wish to read about any double homicides coming out of Apple Cup rivalries this week.
