First Day Impressions

I wasn't at practice yesterday but I had more than a few friends who were in attendance who reported back. Pretty much the first day is all about the eye test and getting comfortable.

Bishop Sankey is going to be a real good player and he has the chance to make an immediate impact. He is as fast or even faster than advertised. He hits the hole without hesitation and already has a mature running style. He could be a guy that starts out making a difference returning kicks but expect him to earn the spot behind Callier.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins is going to have an immediate impact. No surprise here and we haven't seen enough of him blocking with pads on yet but he is already a big time receiver. He is described as being extremely smooth while running his routes and he is just a huge target over the middle. Sarkisian says that ASJ is as talented physically as anyone he has ever coached at that position.

Kasen Williams doesn't exactly suck either. He really passes the eye test and looks like he has been hanging out around campus the past four years. He really gets up in the air and takes it away from the DB's. This kid is going to be a big time playmaker.

Nick Montana had a real good day. Price is the starter but Nick is waiting in the wings just getting better every day. A friend remarked that it was better for Montana to start his career as a backup because it is giving him the adequate time to grow into the position without pressure.

Price on the other hand doesn't have that luxury. If Price under-performs all the fans will be calling for Nick to be the savior. Keith looked good yesterday and he will getting approximately 2/3 of the snaps during practice for the rest of camp.

Freshman QB Derrick Brown was impressive on his first day as a Husky. He throws the ball well and he is built like a horse. He reminds the guys quite a bit of Jake Locker.

Nick Holt Jr is helping fill the void at FB. Holt is listed as a LB and that is where he will eventually end up but in the meantime he could earn some early playing time if he shows he can block.

Overall the team looks better physically that it did a year ago. The freshman class is impressive. The veterans continue their transformation under Coach Ivan. All the returning defensive lineman look fantastic. Everette Thompson who can play inside or out really stands out because he put on 30 good pounds.

Danny Shelton looks ready to play. Strength wise he is already one of the strongest kids on the team. He was getting a lot of work and you can tell that the coaches have him on the fast track to immediate playing time.

James Sample is impressively put together. He is another kid who will be getting a lot of work with the one's and two's as camp goes on. Dick Baird mentioned that he just pops out at you as one of those special kids.
