Recruiting is a 24 hour a day - 365 day per year fact of life at this level but there are definite times when things slow down a bit and this in one of them. Almost everyone is in camp right now and most of the current emphasis is just getting ready for the season.
Kentridge HS TE Caleb Smith is headed to Oregon State and that means that the Beavers have snagged the two top TE's in the state according the recruiting services. Eric Lemke from Issaquah is the kid they are probably going to end up with if they even take a TE in this class.
Safety Shaquille Thompson from Grant HS in Sacramento has always been a California lean but Washington continues to be a solid number two in the race to obtain his services. A friend of mine from the Cal site says Shaq is very serious about Washington. He intends to announce his decision at the Army All American Bowl.
Four star safety Reggie Daniels from Hamilton HS in Chandler, Arizona has Washington listed in his final four.
CB Brandon Beaver, CB Alphonso Marsh, OL Lacy Westbrook, and DE Damion Turpin from Dominguez HS in Compton, California all have Washington listed among their favorites. Beaver and Marsh seem to be a package deal with the Huskies and Nebraska as the favorites to close the duo.
CB Kevon Seymour from Muir HS in Pasadena visited Washington this past spring and the Huskies lead for his services at this point. UW recruit RB Tairen Owens also goes to Muir HS.
Lakes CB Cedric Dozier favors Washington and California. Cal probably has the edge right now.
Not much has changed regarding offensive linemen Josh Garnett and Zach Banner. Both are going to take their time and decide after they take all their visits. Ultimately it will come down to Stanford and UW for Garnett. Most insiders think Banner will go to UW.
Auburn OL Cory English has Pac 12 offers from Washington, Washington State, and Oregon State. He says he doesn't have a favorite and wants to take his visits to see which place feels like home to him. Massive OL Walker Williams from Tacoma Baptist is headed to Wisconsin. This could help tilt English to Washington who may be concerned about playing time.
LB Brett Bafaro from Liberty HS in Hillsboro, Oregon visited practice last week. We think UW has the edge right now but OSU and Oregon are still very much in the picture.
FB Ryan McDaniel from North HS in Torrance, California lists Washington and Arizona State as his current favorites. McDaniel is the top big back on the board for the Huskies at the moment.
RB Byron Marshall reportedly visited Washington on an unofficial basis yesterday. He will visit Oregon today. He was at Notre Dame and Purdue last week.
The Huskies need to take a kicker this year unless by some miracle Erik Folk is granted a sixth year which is possible. I haven't seen any names mentioned yet which makes me think that the coaches will be looking at some JC talent later in the season.
DT Ellis McCarthy will visit USC, Cal, Florida, Washington and Oregon. He has already taken an unofficial visit to Oregon.
