Battle of Midway

We reached the midpoint of camp yesterday which means that for the most part the coaches have a pretty good idea of who the starters are going to be when the team faces off against Eastern Washington to open the season. Game planning now becomes more of a priority each day at camp.

For most of the scrimmage it was the one's versus the two's and the two's held the upper hand most of the day. Sark said he likes that and that a lot of the two's are actually in the 1-B type of category meaning that they will be rotating in and out of the game once the season starts.

Sark mad an interesting comment that harkens back to his days at USC. He wants Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to be tougher than Saturday for his team. He feels that his squad is getting really close to doing that.

The biggest negative of the scrimmage were drops. Observers counted at least eight and there probably was more. It hurt Price more than Montana. Nick looked good and had one of his better days in camp. Both QB's are doing well and Montana continues to chip away at the gap between them. Jermaine Kearse and Devin Aguilar both had a couple of the drops.

Frosh Notes

Bishop Sankey keeps cementing a position in the rotation while Chris Polk is rehabbing his knee. He picked up 44 yards an nine carries to lead the team. Dezden Petty has his best day so far picking up 22 from the FB position. He is still behind Amosa and Holt on the depth chart.

CB Marcus Peters continues to impress and definitely is going to be playing this season. DT Danny Shelton also continues to improve and will also see action.

Kyle Lewis

Kyle Lewis who was a late addition to the 2011 recruiting class will not be attending Washington. He has enrolled at Cerritos JC. He wasn't able to make it past the NCAA clearinghouse.

Lache Seastrunk granted his release

Lache Seastrunk missed practice on Saturday and it looks like the talented running back is transferring to Baylor. He is currently buried in the depth chart and the zone read offense doesn't seem to be a good fit for him at this point. Add in all the drama of this past spring and perhaps the best thing for him is a fresh start close to home. Chip Kelly confirmed late yesterday (ESPN) that he had been granted a release.

Sleeping QB

In other Oregon news QB Darron Thomas said he was asleep when the car he was driving in was traveling at 118 miles per hour and that he didn't smoke any pot. "I woke up, the police (officer) was right at the window talking about it. That's all the facts I know," Thomas told reporters Thursday after practice. (ESPN)

Quote of the Day

"It’s great for them," Sarkisian said after practice. "I think anytime the twos go against the ones there’s always a little bit of that underlying motivation that they want to be with the ones, and that’s how it should be. They should compete and if the ones don’t show up the twos should play really well. And I think that we’ve recruited well enough now that there shouldn’t be that much disparity between the ones and the twos and I thought that showed today."
