Vancouver loses more than a Stanley Cup

Frightening scenes from across the border tonight as downtown Vancouver erupted into flames after the Canucks lost the Stanley Cup to the Boston Bruins. I watched the game on TV in Chicago and was surprised to see the riots be the top story during the Chicago nightly news.

Over 100,000 people gathered downtown to watch the game on huge public screens left over from the Olympics. When things went bad for the Canucks in the third period the young and inebriated crowd decided to go totally WTO.

You can certainly blame the kids involved but you can also blame the authorities for not providing the planning and security for what amounted to be an impromptu event.
