Recruiting Round Up

The recruiting news over at Montlake hasn't been very good over the last couple of weeks but with 19 current commits and with approximately only nine spots left to fill the sky isn't exactly falling. Here is a rundown on where the class is headed at this point.

QB - 2 - Jeff Lindquist and Cyler Miles...This part of the class is finished and is a huge success. Bringing in two four star QB's in a single class is pretty rare. UW is pretty set for the next five years at QB.

RB - 3 - Tairen Owens and Erich Wilson...With the news that Kelvin York is headed to Utah the Huskies probably only have room for local stud Keivarae Russell. We expect him to pick UW next week at a school assembly. All three of these kids can play multiple positions on both sides of the ball.

WR - 4 - Michael Rector, Dwayne Washington, Kendyl Taylor, and Marvin Hall....This is a real solid group and I don't expect UW to bring in another WR....unless that WR....or one of these guys listed above ends up being a defensive back which can always happen. All four of these kids are excellent recruits. UW has done very well here. Hall is a 2011 gray shirt and will enroll for winter quarter. Kendyl Taylor has star written all over him. I am surprised that he doesn't have four stars,

TE - 0 - UW hasn't gotten a commitment and even though they do have a few offers floating around I don't expect them to end up taking a TE this year.

OL - 5 - Nathan Dean and Cory English...UW has two solid local kids in the boat and will likely take three more. The big name left on the list is Zach Banner. If he ends up coming to UW along with Shane Brostek than I think you can call this a successful year even with the loss of Garnett. Lacy Westbrook is another guy who would look good in purple and gold. Jeremiah Poutasi is another kid on the UW short list.

DL - 6 - Josh Banks, Malcolm Jackson, Kalei Auelua, and Damion Turpin...UW has room for a couple more defensive linemen. In a perfect world one of those kids is a NG named Ellis McCarthy or Josh Tupou. UW will also try to grab one more DE. Dylan Couzens and Pio Vatuvei are a couple of kids still on the board who are interested in UW. Christian Powell is another kid to keep an eye on. The Huskies are recruiting him as a FB and DE.

LB - 3 - Blake Rodgers, Ryan McDaniel, and Corey Littleton...I really like all three of these players and this is a pretty nice haul if all three remain at LB. McDaniel could end up bring a big running back. Littleton could grow into a DE. The Huskies could take one more depending on how things sort out. Two guy's they are still really interested in are Jared Afalava and Mark Rowe.

DB - 5 - Jason Thompson and Darien Washington...Thompson and Washington are projected to be safeties. Thompson could eventually grown into a LB. Alphonzo (Fabio) Marsh is back in the mix. I expect him to commit to UW during his in home visit. Brandon Beaver says he is thinking things over because Coach Martin left but most think he is still headed to UW. Dozier, Goforth, and Harper are all still very much in the mix.
