Insiders are saying that Rocky Seto (Seahawks) and Greg Burns (ASU) are among the top candidates to fill the open vacancy on the Washington coaching staff. Seto was actually offered the DC job when Sark was hired at UW but turned it down to stay in LA. When Carroll split for Seattle Seto ended up following because Kffin didn't have room for him on his staff.

Greg Burns from ASU is another name to keep an eye on. He is available and he worked with Sark and Holt when they were assistants at USC. Burns is originally from the LA area and played football at WSU. He has been on Erickson's staff at ASU for the past four years.

New ASU head coach Todd Graham may have an interest in UW offensive line coach Dan Cozzetto. That isn't surprising because Cozzetto is highly regarded by powerful Devil alums down in the desert. He has a pretty good gig at UW so it would take a whopper of an offer for him to make the move.

Speaking of Graham he left Pittsburgh on incredibly bad terms after only a single season. He burned some serious bridges but that has kind of been his style ever since he became a head coach. He definitely has a lot in common with soon to be departed head coach Dennis Erickson.

Graham was a top Rich Rodriguez assistant at West Virginia before taking the head coaching job at Rice. Rodriguez poached three coaches from his Pitt staff when he was hired a couple of weeks ago at Arizona. I think it will be pretty interesting watching these two guys butt heads in the same state.

Fresno State has hired Texas A&M interim coach Tim DeRuyter to replace the fired Pat Hill as head coach. That means that UW OC Doug Nussmeier isn't going anywhere a this point. That being said it won't be long till somebody offers him a head coaching job.

UW legend Marques Tuiasosopo was officially hired as an assistant by Jim Mora. Tui who will serve as a QB coach until the bowl game will be a TE coach starting this spring. Look for Tui to return to

ASU OC Noel Mazzone is the third ASU coach to accept a position on Jim Mora's inaugural UCLA coaching staff. Mazzone has been around the block a few times. He has coached at Ole Miss, Auburn, Oregon State and NC State in addition to ASU and also spent a year as a wide receiver coach for the New York Jets.

Steve Kelley of the Seattle Times thinks that Zach Banner is going out of state to school (Oklahoma) rather than staying home to play at Washington. His son Mason who actually covers high school football doesn't agree. He thinks he stays home. Since when is Steve Kelley a recruiting guru?

Huskies resume practicing

Washington will hit the practice field today to begin game planning for their confrontation with Baylor in the Alamo Bowl. The Huskies already have had five out of the allotted fifteen bowl practices. Those practices were devoted to evaluating and coaching the younger talent on the team while the veterans got healthy.
