UCLA 34 Texas 12
One of the beautiful things about college football is the unpredictability of it all from week to week. You never know when the upsets are going happen. Today was one of those days when everything fell together for UCLA on the road against Texas.
Nobody expected the beaten up Bruins to have a shot of beating Texas yet the 1-2 Bruins shellacked the Longhorns 34-12 in Austin. The most amazing stat in this game is the Bruin offense only cranked out 291 yards with 264 of them coming on the ground. Five Texas turnovers gave the Bruins the short field and the win in this game.
USC 50 WSU 16
Washington State took an early 7-0 lead over USC but the Trojans used turnovers and a bruising ground game to rout the Cougars in Pullman 50-16. The Cougars are terrible but they are improving and have a shot at surprising someone later this season. The Trojans churned out 613 yards of total offense against a young WSU defense.
Stanford 37 Notre Dame 14
Stanford had little problem dominating Notre Dame 37-14 in South Bend. Andrew Luck threw three interceptions but Notre Dame turned those gifts into a single field goal. The Stanford defense dominated the Irish offense all day keeping them out of the end zone despite moving the ball well in between the twenties.
Boise State 37 Oregon State 24
This game was as good as advertised. the difference was BSU QB Kellen Moore who threw for three TD's and 288 yards. Doug Martin Jr. who is the son of the Husky great of the same name ran for 138 yards. (UW didn't recruit him.) The Bronco's weren't perfect and they made enough mistakes to keep the Beavers in the game into the fourth quarter. The difference in this one was Kellen Moore who was a lot more productive than OSU QB Ryan Katz who was 12-26 for only 159 yards and no touchdowns.
Arizona 10 California 9
Arizona trailed almost the entire game before scoring a late TD to take a 10-9 lead with 1:11 remaining in the game. The Wildcats held on the next series to seal the victory and avoid an upset at home.
Oregon 42 Arizona State 31
The Sun Devils gave the Ducks everything they could handle and more but the Ducks broke open a tight game in the second half due to ASU fumbles and penalties. ASU is improved and they are going to win some games this year if they can eliminate the mistakes.
Two scores to think about for Husky Fans - Nebraska 17 South Dakota State 3
The Cornhuskers put 56 points on the scoreboard against Washington last week and shut down Heisman Candidate Jake Locker. This week they could only muster 17 points at home against an 0-3 FBC team. For crying out loud SDSU are the Fighting Jack Rabbits. Could be a serious let down after a big win or a harbinger of some disappointing things to come for the Huskies.
Nevada 27 Brigham Young 13
The Cougars fall to 1-3 with their only win coming over Washington in the opener. Obviously the Cougars aren't the squad we thought they were going into the season.
