The Huskies go at it in full pads today for the first time this season. The team has been getting progressively chippier throughout the week so the timing is pretty good for what should be a physical practice. If you haven't gotten out there yet today or tomorrow would be a great time to go. The Huskies will scrimmage a bit on Saturday.
Sark - "We’re going to see guys play football (today. But) to me, whether we’re in full pads or half pads, we’re playing football at a pretty good tempo and a pretty high intensity.
Frosh TE Evan Hudson suffered a sprained shoulder on Wednesday and is expected to miss about a week...Frosh DE Hau'ouli Jamora has been getting some meaningful time with the ones and will definitely be in the rotation this year...DT Sione Potoae is another freshman that will see time in the rotation inside.
Sark announced that five walk-ons would be put on scholarship for the 2010 season. They are LB Jonathan Amosa, LB Brandon Huppert, OL Daniel Kanczugowski, snapper Brendan Lopez and OL Greg Christine. All could play key backup or special teams roles for UW this season.
Recruiting Tid Bits
Austin Sefarian-Jenkins was on KJR with Softy today and says he won't make his mind up until Saturday and will make his announcement as scheduled Monday at the Gig Harbor Yacht Club. I keep hearing Washington even though an Orangebloods report came out and indicated he was leaning Texas.
DE Greg Townsend from Beverly Hills really likes the staff at Washington. Townsend is one of the top DE recruits in the country. If Townsend heads out of state Seattle is the likely direction.
Picture Day
Join the Huskies for one of the UW's great annual traditions, Picture Day, this Sunday, Aug. 15, at Husky Stadium. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. Admission is free. Picture Day, which takes place on the stadium field, gives fans the opportunity to meet, take photos with and get autographs from every member of the UW football team, as well as the volleyball and men's and women's soccer teams.
USC Limits Contact in a couple of ways
The Trojans are down to under 70 players going into the Hawaii game and Lane Kiffin has decided to limit contact on the playing field. DE Nick Perry went down with a high ankle sprain earlier this week. The Trojans will tackle only in Saturday's scrimmage and in another the week after.
"We won't do it in practice ever again until about four years from now," Kiffin said, alluding to NCAA sanctions that include a reduction in scholarships over the next three years.
It's not as easy being a USC coach as it used to be. Some coaches now carry a notepad with them to log every call on their cell phones because they must tell the compliance office who they spoke to, in order to make sure they do not call recruits more times than allowed.
