Softball Team Battles for Survival
The defending national champion Washington Softball team will try to do what no other squad has done before and that is come back from losing the first game of the CWS to win a national championship. The Huskies need to win two games today to get another shot at winning a national championship in the double elimination tournament. First up is Arizona at 11:00 AM. If they win they play another loser out game at 6:00 PM.
Update: Arizona knocks out Washington 4-3.
IRA Finals on Saturday
The Husky Men's Crew will be racing for their second consecutive IRA title today on the Cooper River in New Jersey. Washington's main competition as it has been all season will be California who Washington edged on Friday in a semi final race. If the Huskies win today it will be there first back to back national championship in Crew since the 1940-41 season.
Update: Cal upsets Washington
The Cal Bears peaked on the day, and got the race of the year when it counted, rowing down what had been an utterly dominant UW Varsity in the last 5 strokes to get their bow across the line first.
"The guys handled the conditions well, we put a good surge in the race for that, but California was just better today," said UW head coach Mike Callahan after the racing. "Today's result is going to make people very hungry, there's no question we're going to be motivated by this."
