Stanford rallied to beat Oregon State with strong second half 62-54. The Huskies will face the Cardinal at 2:30 pm tomorrow in the second round. Anthony Goods scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half to help rally the Cardinal. Stanford was making its first-ever appearance in the tournament's play-in game a year after losing to UCLA in the title game.
Oregon State swept Stanford during the regular season and looked like they were going to make it three in a row after leading 28-21 at the half. Missed free throws in the last four minutes of the game did in the Beavers. Lathen Wallace led OSU with 18 points.
Aron Baynes scored 14 of his 20 points in the first half, and Washington State never trailed in beating Oregon 62-40 on Wednesday night in a first-round game of the Pac-10 tournament.
The win was the fourth in the last five games for Washington State (17-14), which faces No. 15 UCLA (24-7) Thursday night in the quarterfinals. The teams split their two games this season, with the second-seeded Bruins winning 61-59 in January and the seventh-seeded Cougars prevailing 82-81 last month.
