Pac 12 Pickem Results/schedule

Well the Dawgs got a split in Oregon. I know that is what is expected but the loss to Oregon stings. Johnnycougar was the only to correctly pick the Oregon win. Of Course all the rest of us are homers. And no one including johnnycougar picked WSU to beat OSU. Well that is enough mention of cougars in one post. IMPORTANT! There is a Wednesday game. If you miss the Wednesday game just pick the rest of them and you will get a loss for Wednesday. Its a game that has USC playing so its a free one if you do pick it. Lets get to the results:

2012 UW Baseball Roster: Pitchers p.1

Washington Baseball truly is hidden in the shadow of Husky Stadium. With the stadium torn down now is the time for the program to step up and make a play. It's easier to find women's volleyball coverage with opening day this week. Every time they glance at the rising construction to the South I hope this team realizes the opportunities before them... Lux sit!

Enough of this 2011 rain, 17-37 overall and 6-21 PAC-10 record. When you finish in the basement the last year of the PAC-10 you can only go up. We can talk about that abysmal season while projecting the 2012 season on Opening Day. The focus this week will be on the present group of ballplayers sporting the 'W' with pride. Like the scent of a new car, we can only enjoy the freshness of '12 for so long, so lets get to the good stuff.

Softball and Women's Basketball

This is just a quick summary of what happened last week.

Softball

The women's softball team had a pre-season tournament in Tempe over the weekend, and came out with the trophy.

Against Nebraska, the Dawgs won 4-0. Not only did Sophomore pitcher Kaitlin Ingelsby throw a two-hitter, but she also pounded a two-run homer in the first inning. Ingelsby subsequently drove in the third run in the third inning. This was also the collegiate debut of five (5) freshmen for the Dawgs.

The Huskies Beat San Jose State 9-4, and the starter for the Dawgs, sophomore Bryana Walker, gave up only two (2) hits in four (4) innings, with the Dawgs in command 5-0. The Huskies actually took a 9-0 lead in the fifth, and then gave up four runs in the final inning before closing the deal.

The Dawgs 8-runned Idaho State in 5 innings, winning 10-2. Bryana Walker started again, and Kaitlin Ingelsby finished up the game for the win.

Later that day, The Huskies played Northwestern, and Kaitlin Ingelsby got another start. She gave up her first two (2) runs of the season. The Dawgs rallied back and pulled off another easy victory, beating the Wildcats 10-3. Ingelsby also hit a solo homer in the fifth.

Against Texas State, the Dawgs had 14 hits, but it took a late game rally to beat Texas State. Bryana Walker got another start, and she gave up three (3) runs in four (4) innings. The Huskies were down 3-2 in the fifth, but then took a 6-3 lead. In the sixth, the Dawgs scored another six (6) points, and pulled of a 12-3 win.

Baseball was here, wants to come back

Pine tar, fresh cut grass, oiled leather and stained caps. The unmistakable scents of Spring. Baseball was here and the clues are everywhere. Mother nature decided to tantalize our senses with a few glorious February days, and now the cabin fever is at an all-winter high. If you had to pause before driving to work while the urge to go back inside and get your bat bag assailed your schedule, you are not alone! Just one breath and your skin tingles with the joy of knowing baseball is back.

The Diamond Dawgs 2012 season is almost upon us, and this year they FINALLY boast a new set of walls to hit wiffle balls at. New seats and overpriced concessions coming soon. Baseball is where I can contribute, so please feel free to critique and offer up any advice or suggestions for content. There is a lot we can catch up on leading up to the season opener at San Diego State on Feb. 17. Here is the 2012 season schedule. I think a good roster analysis should be on tap first with some conference team previews. Here is a 2012 season primer to start things rolling.

Some Husky Sports Links

These links include any sports the Dawgs play.

Women's Basketball

The Seattle Times interviewed Jazmine Davis, and she is eager for a rematch with the Oregon schools.

"They were the worst games of my life," Davis said of losses at Oregon State and Oregon. "Coming into this game (Thursday, against Oregon), I'm actually a lot more prepared and way more focused to redeem myself to make up for those games."

The Autzen Zoo has a game preview between the Ducks and the Dawgs.

Huskies have some star
power in center Regina Rogers, who leads the team with 16 points
per game and 8.2 rebounds per game. Both Johnson and Jasmin Holliday are two more than capable defensive players in the
frontcourt, but Rogers has the ability to take things over if
not consistently stopped.

The Everett Herald has an article about Everett Native, turned Oregon Duck, Danielle Love

Since most of the Oregon frontcourt graduated, Love knew her role would only expand this season, and she put in extra time shooting at the gym to be ready. She also knew conditioning would be even more important as a starter in run-and-gun guru Paul Westhead's system.

Jayda Evans has a power poll for the pac-12 on her blog, and a little blurb about Pac-12 attendance.

WSU is on pace to double its draw, however, averaging 1,244 in nine home games this year compared to 607 in 12 home match-ups last year.

Pac 12 Basketball Pickem Results/Schedule

FIRST PLACE! Not me but the Huskies. After sweeping the LA schools at home, and combined with Cal's loss to Arizona, UW has one game lead in the conference. CAHusky holds onto one game in our pool. Big road trip for the huskies this weekend as they head to Oregon. Look out for Ben's preview in the next couple days. Here are the results:

4 Huskies get Combine Invites

Looks like four (4) lucky Dawgs are going to the combine this year:

  1. Jermaine Kearse
  2. Seneo Kelemete
  3. Chris Polk
  4. Alameda Ta'amu.

Not bad seeing that the Dawgs had three (3) last year in Mason Foster, Jake Locker and Nate Williams. I guess you could draw all kinds of conclusions from this like, "we had more defensive players at the combine last year therefore the Mayan Calender is correct and the world will end this year ..." or something like that.

What I really like to see is that the Dawgs have more invites then last year. That is what we want to see, more kids on the team being seen as legitimate NFL prospects. Even though this was just one more player, continue this trend and in three (3) years it will be seven (7) guys.

Understanding the 3-4 defense (and other great links)

This was posted over on the Dawgman.com boards (big thanks to iqueral for originally posting these), and the links are too good not to pass along here too.

We all expect that new DC Justin Wilcox will implement more odd-numbered fronts here, and in anticipation of that, here are some good primers on understanding a 3-4 defense and that means in terms of roles and responsibilities for the various positions and how it compares to the 4-3:

It's been such a long time.

Boston song, for those of you too young. It has, being on this site from the start more or less. The growth and quality of the comments has amazed me. I know it's not due to me, but John has kept cranking stuff out and has enough disbelievers to keep things interesting. I just want to let everyone know how much I appreciate your thoughts, each and every one of them. Thank you from an overseas fan who obsesses just as much as you do.

Thank You

When John mentioned how the Steve Kelley article brought some hatemail out of the woodwork it got me thinking.

Rather than hating, I want to say thank you.
