In a bit of a surprise, The Huskies landed a verbal commitment from 2018 Power Forward Jontay Porter Sunday.
I'm making my verbal commitment to the University of Washington! #GoHuskies

Porter's pledge is surprising mainly because of how early he is committing as he has yet to begin his sophomore year in high-school. Nonetheless, Porter is a huge pick up for the Huskies: he is a talented big man who can play with his back to the basket and can also face the hoop and attack, and also seems to have a capable face up jump shot. This commitment will go down as an absolute coup d'etat if it helps the Huskies land his older brother, five star Small Forward Michael Porter Jr.
Head Coach Lorenzo Romar already has a strong connection to the Porter family as he grew up with their father, Michael Porter Sr. (and unsuccessfully tried to hire him to fill the then vacant assistant coaching job this spring), and is the godfather to the Porter brothers. While I don't pretend to know where Michael Porter Jr. will end up committing, I have to think that having Jontay assist in the recruiting process will certainly help Romar's cause.
Porter is the first commitment for the Huskies from the 2018 class. You can watch his highlights here. And just for fun you can watch his older brother Michael's highlights here.
