Opinion: What Should UWDP Say About Dismissed Players?

Few things infuriate me more than rumors and speculation about players who have been dismissed from the program. Any degree of speculation whether it's wild or educated speculation is still speculation. That speculation, to casual outside observers, can turn to rumors... rumors turn to "fact" when a respected person in the community has fueled them with their speculation.

In my opinion, UWDawgPound.com is better than that. Much better than that.

I have had to sit at the table across from weeping parents as I've had to tell them that their child is a detriment to the team. It's the most difficult thing a I've had to do. As they plead for one more chance for their child you pray that this event will be the wake up call they need. And often it is.

Not only is it the right thing to to do not speculate, but it can lead to this site being taken more seriously as a true new media destination for the University of Washington Husky fans.

Additionally, employers these days are scouring the Internet for a character profile. I would hate for something said in speculation to be taken out of context and deny him the opportunity before him.

If this were a PRIVATE forum I'd have no problem with someone's personal life being bandied about but it's not. He's not a number on a uniform or the 3rd LB commit of 2014. He is someone's child who's decisions need to be overcome and who's life needs to get back on track.

Let's take a look at what we are doing with rumors and speculation about a young man who has his whole life ahead of him. He didn't do something illegal or the Seattle Times would have it font and center.

I challenge each and every one of us to Decency Pledge. Let's set the example for other sites. Let these young men move on to the next stage of their lives.

Who's with me?
