As the Huskies' season is a few hours away from kicking off I'm looking at some of the weaponry that Chris Petersen has at his disposal. As I scanned the roster a few names popped out at me as two-way threats beyond just Shaq Thompson. Guys who Chris Petersen might throw in as a wrinkle in different games. The names I came up with are players who can offense and defense. I didn't consider special teams as I was only looking at position players.
I came up with:
John Ross: WR/DB
He can be a jolt on offense with his 4.29 speed. But with at that speed he might be able help out as a DB periodically.
Jesse Callier RB/WR
Ok, he's not a true two-way player (as in offensive and defensive) but a guy what can play various offensive positions. We might even see him take a direct snap or run the Mad Dawg.
Budda Baker: DB/WR
As a true freshman he's going to have a full plate keeping up with the offenses in the Pac12. However, given his speed he might be welcomed to the Legion of Zoom now and then.
Shaq Thompson: LB/RB
An All Pac12 LB... Can he be the short yardage bruiser? How much he plays at RB will be determined by how effective Washington (the RB) is in short-yardage situations.
Evan Hudson: DE/TE
Not a lot of people will give this credence, but I could see it. He spent his first few seasons as a TE under Sark but as an all-state performer on the defensive side of the ball his bulk was switched back to the defensive line.
I could see him in in a jumbo package and peel off for a TD reception.
Most likely we'll see Shaq but there are other options for Coach Pete. Anybody know if any other options?
