Three star WR Dante Pettis, class of 2014, commits to Washington

Pettis is one of the best pure athletes on the West Coast.

Judging by the stars, it may seem like Dante Pettis is just another player. A three star guy who may contribute some as an upperclassman. That could be true, but the potential with Pettis is sky high. Pure athleticism is always something important to a wide receiver, obviously, and Pettis has it in Spades.

Athleticism runs in the family, as his cousin Austin plays in the NFL for the St. Louis Rams. Austin caught four touchdowns for the Rams this season.

Dante is listed at 6-feet-1, 170 pounds. He gets all 170 of those pounds high into the sky.

So let's do a little bit of math here. A rim is 10 feet off of the ground. Let's take a little guess and say he is about three inches short of the rim. That is nothing more than an estimate based on camera angle and where he is. He is 6-foot-1, which is 73 inches. The rim is 120 inches. 120 minus 73 is 47. Take six more away to account for camera angle, and he is at a 41-inch vertical. Boy got hops.

He adds to an already impressive vertical with great speed. He runs track at Junipero Serra High School (Calif.) where he ranked top-50 in the entire state.

Wide receiver could have been viewed as a must-get position for this recruiting class with Kevin Smith, DiAndre Campbell and Antavius Sims graduating, Kasen Williams heading into his senior season and Jaydon Mickens and Marvin Hall entering their junior seasons. Damore'ea Stringfellow could also be leaving after his junior year, depending on how much of an impact he makes int he next two seasons.

Pettis was also considering Boise State, Colorado State, Nevada, San Diego State and Southern Methodist.

This makes seven recruits this week and 16th in the class of 2014.
