The Washington Huskies leveraged an impressive win over Boise State in the opening of the new Husky Stadium last weekend to catapult over several teams and enter the Top 25 of both the USA Today Coaches Poll and the AP Poll according to the polls published today.
The Huskies, who had been in the "receiving votes" categories of both polls during the preseason, had a statement victory over a ranked Boise State team on Saturday night in which they racked up nearly 600 yards on offense while holding the Broncos without a touchdown on defense. A significant jump over so many teams is the polls is not unprecedented, but is somewhat unusual. Last year after Week 1, only Notre Dame made the jump from "Others Receiving Votes" into the top 25 of the AP Poll. However, Notre Dame was effectively the #26 team in that preseason poll making the jump into the Top 25 not that big of a leap.
Outside the moves of Washington and Miami into the Coaches Poll, much of the preseason poll stayed intact with Alabama receiving 53 first place votes. Georgia was the biggest faller to stay in the poll following their close road loss to #8 Clemson on the road. The two teams that fell out of the poll altogether were Boise State and Oregon State, who lost to an FCS team for the second time in the past three seasons (and, in case you didn't read the Gekko File on Oregon State, you may wish to now).

Overall, a good start to the season for the Huskies who are almost certain to still be ranked coming out of their BYE and with a great opportunity to rack up a few more wins before opening up Pac 12 play at home against Arizona. GO DAWGS!
