Washington Huskies target Zylan Cheatham cut his list to eight schools last week during the last July recruiting period.

The July basketball recruiting is over and now a quiet period from August 1 through September 8 takes place. Coaches and players are not allowed to have face-to-face contact, though other types of contact like phone calls and text messaging are permitted. This week was the last chance for Washington's coaching staff to make an impression on several priority recruits before hitting the quiet period.

Lorenzo Romar and his assistant coaches were spread out across Las Vegas watching the three major tournaments – the Fab 48, the Las Vegas Classic, and the Adidas Super 64 – in the final live evaluation period of the summer. Here's a quick rundown of who the staff was watching last week:

  • Washington went all out and did their best to show 2014 F Zylan Cheatham they want to see him wearing purple and gold in the near future. Romar and at least two of his assistants were at every single one of Cheatham's games with his AAU team, Arizona Magic Pump N Run in the Adidas Super 64 tournament. Cheatham cut his list to eight schools on Friday via Twitter, with Washington making the cut. The other schools to make the cut were: Arizona St., San Diego St., New Mexico, USC, Memphis, Oregon and Miami.
  • Romar offered a couple of underclassmen this past week, including 2015 G Jeremy Hemsley. The La Verne, Calif. native is a 6-foot-3 shooting guard who hold scholarships from several West Coast schools along with an offer from Connecticut. His ESPN Scouting Report describes him as a high-energy player with "incredible slashing ability" with a knack for scoring.
  • Keep your eye on 2015 F Marquese Chriss. Hailing from Elk Creek, Calif., Chriss is a long and freak athlete, who also has above-average ball-handling and passing ability for a player of his size. San Diego St. and USC have also offered Chriss.
  • Add 2016 G Devearl Ramsey to the list of guards UW is pursuing, the staff offered Ramsey a scholarship last week. Ramsey is a 5-foot-11 point guard from Chatsworth, Calif. Currently holding offers from Washington and USC, Ramsey is described on his ESPN Scouting Report as having a great burst of speed along with the ability to hit shots from all three levels.
  • And last but not least, 2016 G Christian Terrell received an offer from UW last week. Terrell is 6-foot-2 point guard from Northern California.
  • The staff continues to show interest in the tandem of 2015 G Dejounte Murray and 2016 G Isiah Brown. The pair both starred for A Plus Seattle this summer, helping form one of the best underclassmen backcourts on the West Coast. ESPN's Joel Francisco praised Murray's explosiveness on offense in his evaluation of him at a Pangos camp from two weeks ago.
  • NBC Sports College Basketball Talk's blog has this interesting story on 2015 G Allonzo Trier, reflecting on his experience after being featured in the New York Times very early on in his childhood.
