We'll have live updates from Hec Ed throughout this afternoon. Follow along!
4:21--FINAL, PURPLE (post-2009) 107, WHITE (pre-2009) 103--> The White team had a sense of urgency at the end of the game, but couldn't muster enough energy and points to defeat the younger players. The MVP went to Isaiah Thomas.
3:56--COLD-BLOODED--> Hec Ed erupted after Isaiah Thomas re-enacted his cold-blooded shot during a timeout. They dubbed the Gus Johnson audio and Thomas swished the shot like it was yesterday.
3:46--Competitive?--> Depends on who you talk to...At some points the two teams aren't playing defense and are putting on a show for the crowd, at other times the two teams are talking trash. It's 76-75 with Purple (post-2009) leading. 13:39 to go in the game.
3:33--Raining Three's--> Justin Dentmon wins the 3-point shootout, beating Ryan Appleby, Nate Robinson, Quincy Pondexter, and Tre Simmons.
3:22--HALFTIME, PURPLE (post-2009) 60, WHITE (pre-2009) 55--> Isaiah Thomas leads all scorers with 15 points at the half. The three-point contest will take place during halftime. Looks like Ryan Appleby, Justin Dentmon, Terrence Ross and a few more might be participating.
3:15--Old guys take lead--> Will Conroy stole an in-bound pass and found an open Brandon Roy for a three-pointer. 51-50 White (Pre-2009).
3:05--All too familiar--> A Tony Wroten no-look pass? Jon Brockman cleaning up an Isaiah Thomas miss? A smiling Brandon Roy? It's deja vu day here at Hec Ed. Purple (post-2009) leads 37-33 with 7:24 to go.
3:00--Is it basketball season?--> You'd think with the rain outside, the sellout here at Hec-Ed and the excitement for today's game that we are in December already. A couple of cool plays have taken place, including a bounce alley-oop assist from Will Conroy to Mike Jensen. Purple (post-2009) leads 30-23 with about 10 minutes to go.
2:45---And we're off--> Ross/Wroten/Brockman/Thomas/Pondexter starting for Purple. Conroy/Robinson/Roy/Simmons/Hawes starting for White. The teams are playing two 20-minute halves.
2:15--SOLD OUT--> The public address announcer declared an official sell-out here at Hec Ed. We are about 15 minutes away from tip. The scene is pretty surreal, it is very rare to see all these players back on the floor where their careers started.
2:00--Main event coming up--> The Purple (Post-2009) and White (Pre-2009) teams have taken the floor for warmups. We are about a half an hour away from the game starting. Quincy Pondexter who was questionable because of a trip to Singapore is on the court and warming up. Guard Ryan Appleby has been placed on the post-2009 team.
FINAL--Team White 22, Team Purple 27--> Lorenzo Romar scores 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting for Team Purple. The main event, the alumni game is up next.
1:38--Packed House---> UW says there have already been 7,000 tickets sold. Tickets will stop being sold once they reach 8,500. If you haven't left yet, you might be out of luck.
Halftime--Team White 16, Team Purple 14--> Donald Watts ended the first half with a two-handed dunk down the lane. Did he travel? We might have to go to instant replay for that.
1:20--Romar on fire --> The old-timers are settling from beyond the arc and taking a three-point shot, but Romar is showing that he might be the best shooter in the building. He's hit three treys in a row.
1:10--Standing O for Coach Ro--> The support for UW Head Coach Lorenzo Romar is still strong. The 1978-80 point guard received a standing ovation and the loudest cheer when his name was announced during the pre-game introductions. I don't think his seat is hot at all.
12:55--Star sighting---> Besides the usual throng of NBA players, several of Seattle's basketball royalty is at Hec Ed today. Slick Watts and Lenny Wilkens are among the few. Shawn Kemp and Jamal Crawford are also expected to attend.
12:45-- 15 minutes from tip of the Legends game and the building is about 80 percent full. The White and Purple teams for the Legends game are on the court currently warming up. The atmosphere is tricking me into thinking it is basketball season already.
12:21--Hec Ed filling up--> I'd say the building is 30 percent full right now. I am hearing the line outside is really long. If you haven't left your house, I'd leave now if you are planning to watch.
12:09-- Legends Warming Up--> No. 20 Lorenzo Romar is warming up and showing off a nice jump shot preparing for the Legends game featuring some of the old-timers of UW basketball. Expect to see a lot of gray hair and bald heads in this game.
