How do you feel about recruiting?
I want to start off with a quick shout out to all of the players that have joined the DAWG pack this year. Welcome aboard! We in Husky nation are absolutely nuts about everything related to Husky sports so please forgive some of us that get a little too FANatical in our debate. When we talk about "poor class" vs "strong class" or "late rally saving the class" we don't mean the individual players are/were lacking, simply that we didn't get enough players at certain positions.
Having said that, there has been a lot of debate about how good this class really is (as it pertains to our team needs), and what it might mean as far as long term recruiting strategy. I know we are all really happy with the late rally in this class, but was it good enough? How do you feel about the apparent emphasis of Cal talent over the local boys? I personally hope that this was just a one year anomaly, not a trend. I'll let it slide this year because we landed some monster players from out of state. However, we can't let the local big fish slip away any more. What do you think?

I'll definitely let it slide
As long as it’s not a trend and with Sarkisian, I feel like it will not be. Sark will mend the fence around Washington, I Bark for Sark.
I also feel like, I don’t really care about where they come from as long as they are a Dawg. That’s mostly due to me being kinda ignorant when it comes to recruiting, I don’t know enough to be a expert. I’m overall very happy with our recruiting class. I wish we got some of the big uglies who left the state, but what can you do. I have a feeling that this all star staff will make it up in 2013.
Who understands the 18-year old human mind? Nobody, that’s who. These kids have just survived all the miseries of adolescence, and the publicly mandated ghettoization of teenage savages that is high school (or at least, most of them have), and they come out the other end miraculously believing they are on top of the freakin’ world.
God Bless their little hearts, let them believe it, at least for a few precious weeks. The world will soon prove otherwise, and generally continue to do so for much of their remaining lives. As long as they’re not engaged in some sort of predatory thuggery, pat them on the head and say, `Good Luck to you, Son. Whatever you want to do, wherever you want to do it, you pursue that dream. Keep your nose clean, keep your grades up, and have fun’.
What we are dealing with here in `recruiting’ is part of an awesome transformation, from the dependent child to the free adult. This choice belongs to them, and their families. As a fan, it’s absolutely NONE of my business. As a Dawg, I may like to believe that the UW is the end-all and be-all of available options, but I must acknowledge that there are other high-quality options available, and that prospective recruits are entirely free to disagree with me. I can’t begrudge them that at all.
It’s a similar deal for the coaches. We hire these men to sell, and front, and improve our University. Are they doing so? I think, unquestionably, that they are. But it’s a process, with many, MANY factors beyond their immediate control. You want better recruiting? Help make the UW a better school. Help make Seattle a better city. And it would be extra helpful if you could do something about the weather.
Failing that, at least try to be patient. Trust the coaches, that they’re doing the best they can. I saw Sarkisian’s presser yesterday. The man is obviously, 1. quite capable, 2. proud of his recruits, and 3. thoroughly exhausted. That is all you can ask for. Thank you Sark & Co. Take a well-earned vacation.
the in-state losses sucked, period
However, I’ll let it slide because I think Sark has addressed it with the new hires. I think recruiting is going to really take off with the revamped staff.
