Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

This is a two (2) part interview with the Husky AD. The first one deals specifically with both Woodward's and Sark's thought process behind the coaching changes after the Alamo Bowl, and also how UW was able to make some of its hires quickly,

Check the comments section for a link to part 2

There are some pretty interesting details about how Sark and Woodward work together.

Thanks Randall

Good stuff. I wonder if part two of the interview is out yet? Couldn’t find a link.

The second part is really brief

just mentions a little about stadium stuff and general answers about the new TV money. Nothing big is in the works, but they need to plan for the increasing cost of tuition for student-athletes and overall rising costs.

Good stuff here

I think it really does get overlooked at how big of an impact Scott has had on the program. He took quite the chance hiring Sark in the first place, a young guy with no head coaching experience. He was basically pinning his career here at UW to the success or failure of an unproven talent. Bold move, Scott. Bold move.

I love how involved Scott is in everything as well (an hour every day is pretty impressive). It also made me wonder if either Scott or Sark ever sleep. I really feel that the program is in great hands for the first time in over a decade.

My only real issue with Woodward

is his alumni relations. He could do much better. Hopefully, with all the coaching stuff being done for now he can focus a little more on alum relations. I was hoping Condotta would have asked him some questions in that regard.

Really more than two decades

since we a had an AD this good. Former AD Milo (Mike) Lude was chased off by former UW President William Gerberding around 1991.

When a UW alum, Mark Emmert, became president, I was pleased. I was more confident the football program, that supports the athletic department, was not going to be submarined. President Young seems to be very supportive as well.

Cal needs to calm down

A: The Tosh Lupoi hiring, in particular, has gotten a lot of attention and some at Cal have expressed some displeasure with how that went down. Is there anything you had to do to repair relations with anyone at Cal?

A: Steve, I know, called coach (Jeff) Tedford (before making the hire) and that’s how you have to do it. We’ve had institutions poach our coaches and come after our coaches that we’ve had to retain, and I’m sure that will continue to be the case. It’s not personal, it’s everyone trying to get better

A lot of the angst, in my opionion at least ...

which doesn’t amount to much, a just a general dissatisfaction in the entire fan base over the last few years of mediocrity the football team has achieved … that and Sark kills seal pups.

I'm sorry

I got a laugh over the whole baby seals thing.

WHAT?!?!

Sark kills baby seals?!

I thought the whole problem was that he clubbed with baby seals.

According to Jon Wilner,

Larry Scott had a conversation with the UW (probably Woodward) about the way the Lupoi hiring went down. Wilner didn’t say any more than that about it. I don’t know if Scott decided to do it on his own, or if it was at Cal’s request (or because of their moaning).

Woody...

The guy is doing one helluva job driving the ship…he is getting the job done in a way that perhaps this athletic department has never seen in its history.

One to two hours per day of communication with Sark…Wow!
