Holy Andy Russo!

Last nights basketball game had to be one of the all time stinkers of the Lorenzo Romar regime. If this was the NBA Lorenzo would be on a serious hot seat despite past accomplishments. The reason for that is this team has no chemistry. I repeat they have no chemistry and the only way to correct that is to trade players or fire the coach.

That being said this isn't the NBA and Lorenzo isn't going anywhere even though I bet he would have liked to have been anywhere but Boulder last night.

Up next (I hear your knee's shaking) is Utah who actually beat Washington State last night. So if you want to win CODawg's BB pool don't pick visitors to win this season in the Pac 12.

The chemistry is alarmingly bad

when did it become difficult to make a two foot pass to a teammate with no defenders in the area?

Same night

you get a dunk blocked after getting the ball with nobody within 10 feet. I felt like I was watching the game in slow-motion for the Dawgs.

I picked yes

only because I hope. I never been impressed with Romar’s “coaching ability”. I love Romar and understand that we would be nowhere without him. But everything about his coaching (x’s and o’s) except his D has always been pretty subpar. I just have faith in the Dawgs, or I’m just a Husky fan, these are the reasons I see a mid season turnaround!

Shockingly bad. Zero leadership.

It’s like we had a heart transplant (and the donor failed to show up). …l picked yes, because I believe in miracles. However, I really, really doubt it.

I couldn't vote, too painfull

this is a team that stayed with Duke and Marquete in New York. Now, it the glass if half full, it looks like Colo and SoDak St will be in the final 4.

I read last night’s posts and they start off talking about a blow out, which was also my opinion. Little did we know how right we would be. It would have been interesting to hear what Kevin and Lenny thought, rather than that crack team of announcers that did the game.

I voted Yes

However mainly on hope more than anything.

On another note, I am so screwed for my picks. Damn it.

Roast Duck is a delicacy.

Lorenzo Romar is a class individual

who is obviously deficient in the x’s and o’s of contemporary basketball. It wasn’t as evident when he had top-flite assistants teaching the basics to his players. It is glaring right now.

This simple defies x's and o's

They just aren’t jelling and playing like a cohesive team.

Honestly, I put a lot of the blame for last night's game on CJ.

He has got to get his road jitters figured out. This team needs him to hit his shot’s when he is wide open, when he is off to start the game we can fall into a hole pretty easily.

Obviously we have other problems, I just think the difference between home and road CJ accounts for a big part of the difference between the good and bad Huskies.

by UW11Bowdown on Jan 6, 2012 3:07 PM PST reply actions

the problem

is not one player that does not start.

by dawgdude on Jan 6, 2012 3:32 PM PST up reply actions

True...They need to learn to spell

“Team” and “Defense”…it’s that simple.

by gliderdawg on Jan 6, 2012 3:49 PM PST up reply actions

I think the problems on the offensive side of the ball are much worse.

Plenty of room for improvement on D, but we should have scored 80 ourselves yesterday.

by UW11Bowdown on Jan 6, 2012 4:10 PM PST up reply actions

It is A problem though.

IIRC during the period when Colorado took the lead CJ missed 2 or 3 wide open 3’s. We can’t hace that from our best player.

by UW11Bowdown on Jan 6, 2012 4:09 PM PST up reply actions

CJ

Many “shooters” are streaky shooters. Is CJ a streaky shooter? If he is, then like most great teams, when their shooters are off the mark they have the ability of manufacturing points. This team seems to have problems in that department. It would help us manufacture points if we can hit our free throws. The problem though is we get fouled and clank them off. This does nothing for us and it give the ball right back to the other team. We need to start hitting our freethrows in hurry up mode or we’r toast this postseason.

he is not to blame

Did he shoot well no. But he also went to the basket and ended up with 19 points. I also wouldnt say his shots were wide open

by CODawg on Jan 7, 2012 9:42 AM PST up reply actions

I like that they are getting Azziz involved offensively

Against the Oregon schools, Azziz was getting the ball down low and making shots. Against Colorado he wasn’t as productive offensively. We have to be more selective in when to feed it down low to the big fella. Make sure it’s a situation where he has a high percentage chance of scoring the basket. I did like how he passed it out to the top of the key when it appeared the lane was cut off.

If we can fine tune Azziz’s offensive playing, where we can find something automatic down low with him and/or kick it out Akeem Olajuwuan style then we have a great offensive advantage there. I think this team would be darn near unbeatable if Azziz became a low post offensive weapon. We need this kid to sharpen his offensive skills, build up his offensive self esteem, find something that he can excel at in certain low post situations, and hammer it home until it is automatic.

Love Tony Wroten but pass the ball son. Everybody needs their touches so everybody is acclimated to scoring when they need to. I wouldn’t call it selfish play, these things happen to young teams.

You are right that if Aziz became automatic we would be unstoppable.

That isn’t going to happen during the season. Aziz should only be getting the ball when he is wide open.

by UW11Bowdown on Jan 6, 2012 4:11 PM PST up reply actions

To me

Last night just boiled down to making shots. We couldn’t hit shots and they were on fire. We got sloppy late when we were out of it but if we had hit a few more 3’s like we normally would and they would have missed just a couple of their 3’s (they were 8-14) we would have been right there. It’s hard to win when you shoot 33% from the floor.

I would have liked

To be anywhere but in boulder last night too

by CODawg on Jan 6, 2012 4:20 PM PST reply actions

I've resigned myself to the fact that they won't be a tournament team this year

I still harbor hope that this young team will improve as the season progresses like most Romar teams do, but I think unless they 3-peat the Pac 12 tourney, it won’t be dancing. This is what we have with Romar: teams that have exciting athletes, but can’t execute half-court offense, struggle on the road, and aren’t tough enough to make deep tournament runs. I’m not thrilled with it, but it is substantially better than when he took over, and I’m not sure we’re committed enough to hoops to bring in an elite coach, anyway.

by brownypts on Jan 6, 2012 4:47 PM PST reply actions

I agree 100%

about the execution part. We are horrible in the half court game. I think we’ve had a team for three straight seasons who were Final Four elite, just doesn’t pan out. Definitely tough enough to compete on an elite level. Brockman’s last season, we lost a disappointing game to Purdue in the second round. The next season we lost to West Virginia and I’m still pissed about that. Last year we lost to the officials, I mean the Tar Heels on a disappointing loss. We have had great teams the past three years. We are nowhere close this season.

by datboyeddiep on Jan 9, 2012 7:22 AM PST up reply actions

One and Done

Three straight Tourney appearances, 2004-2006 followed by the one and done year of Spencer Hawes and we don’t make it 2007 or 2008.

Now we’ve had three straight appearances, 2009-2011, followed by the one and done year of Tony Wroten, Jr. (not to mention the possibility of Terence Ross leaving after this year).

There’s a complete lack of chemistry and leadership on this team that I think, in a large part, is due to the players knowing that Wroten is gone after this year and no upperclassman wanting to step up and challenge Wroten’s selfish play. They need Darnell Gant to slap some sense into Wroten and get him to play defense and Gaddy needs to become the floor general. Or Romar needs to sit Wroten until he can begin to play in cooperation with his teammates.

by NeuroDawg on Jan 7, 2012 9:23 AM PST reply actions

Romar has gotten on Wrotten this year

for selfishness. But then he continues to play the guy. Then again, can you blame him? Our team is horrible. I expected so much more from T Ross. Aziz still can’t catch passes very well, but he has improved since last season. Our defensive intensity is not there this year.
