So Cool Of You To Come Jaydon!
You will not regret this decision once you score in the New Stadium!
Is it wood or woof?
That could be the new lingo in the Husky football offices!

What happened to Walker? Is he waiting until tomorrow?

Mickens lacks size for the outside receiver position, but he is ideal for the slot and return game. He has excellent field vision and good quickness. He has above average hands and knows how to find the open spots in a defensive zone. He has a good sense for setting up his blocks in the return game, and despite blazing top end speed, is still capable of making the big play. – Scott Kennedy, National Recruiting Analyst
The last 24 hours have been very exciting :)
- Shaq Thompson
- Jordan Payton
- Shane Brostek
- Jayden Mickens
hmm, Huffman is tweeting that the decision hasn't actually been made yet
As of a few minutes ago, Brandon Huffman says the announcement hasn’t actually happened yet. Hope this wasn’t Enyeart jumping the gun with bad info…
sounds like just a formality...
…Enyeart says Mickens already called the coaches, and a family member gave him the scoop. Be nice to see it officially confirmed from his announcement ceremony though, just to be sure.
He's now listed on UW commit list on scout
Just added a minute ago.

I think that one just popped this class into the top 20!
That’s grounds for serious recruiting wood….Mickens is a burner with gamer on top!
On a side/sad note..
Fulmer cup seems like it always goes down south, but it does not say it’s a football player. Pure speculation on my part.

From reading the scouting reports...
It sounds like Payton is the new Kearse and Mickens is the smaller/quicker new Aguilar.
I’m okay with that.
Mickens reminds me more of the high school version of DeSean Jackson actually.
Payton actually reminds me more of Kasen Williams, though I am unsure if his leaping ability is quite like Williams’.
by Carl Shinyama on Jan 31, 2012 8:05 PM PST up reply actions
Yeah, I some times scout players for the NFL draft as a hobby
When DeSean Jackson was entering the draft, I scouted him a bit. I can definitely see the size and style similarities between the two, though Jackson had a better ability to blow the top off the defense on the outside. Of course, I must add the disclaimer of whether Mickens is as dynamic as Jackson was in college remains to be seen.

Sorry to be the party pooper in the group . . .
but when you talk about how you “scout” players and how you “scout” players based off of their videos . . . . . you really start to sound like Crazidawg when he is being especially CRAZI.
You are a fan, just like the rest of us, don’t deny it, just embrace it and love it. Being a fan is GREAT.
"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."
"Legends are made on the shores of Lake Washington"
I don't know
if it’s really a hobby and he puts a lot of time into it, he might know as much, if not more than some of the professionals. Video, especially uncut game film, is just as valuable as watching guys in camps and seeing them play live.
What are the odds of that?
I’ll bet you a large pizza he hasn’t seen a single uncut high school football game video. I’m just trying to keep it real, I get tired of the internet experts. It’s like my sister in law trying to tell me how to fly an airplane.
"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."
"Legends are made on the shores of Lake Washington"
I'd take it
I’ve seen Carl break down film over at Field Gulls. Given, it wasn’t HS video, but he does a fine job of it.
I've had this argument with him before.
For some unknown reason, I hate it when people claim to be experts, but have nothing to back it up with. Probably just tired of “know-it-alls” trying to tell me how airplanes work, when the depth of their aviation experience is from Microsoft Flight Simulator . . . . or even better, sitting in coach.

You mean those things don't fly themselves?
Then what the hell does “autopilot” mean? Can we really be sure you’re not a robot of some sort? I say no.
Yes, they do fly themselves.
Just don’t tell anybody!! I don’t want to lose my paycheck!!!!
Truth be told, you only really need a pilot when stuff breaks (like an autopilot, or an engine quits, the hydraulics fail or a thousand other things). Pilot = Insurance.
"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."
"Legends are made on the shores of Lake Washington"
Yep, I work on U-2s
Not funny story. I was on my way to Saudi Arabia and in the terminal at Osan AB in Korea. For some reason they made everyone leave the terminal. I walked around the corner and looked at the runway and there was an U-2 on its belly. Landing gear failed. A couple of hours later some guys from my shop had managed to detach our nose and were wheeling it back to the shop. Bent but not broken.
Short version, no autopilot, no fly.

Where did they learn their trade?
Who mentored them? Who taught them.
One thing I learned as a flight instructor, teaching yourself how to do something, is a great recipe for disaster.
"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."
"Legends are made on the shores of Lake Washington"
They were both autodidactic in scouting, I believe. They are both very respected scouts.
Using your experience as a flight instructor and applying it to other fields is flawed logic.

yeah, I think you're being a little harsh Lear
Football isn’t some state secret – there is a ton of great info out there on the ‘net and in the several hundred books that coaches have written over the years. If you have the time and willingness to dive into the info out there, and if you have some aptitude for learning and processing information, it’s not at all impossible to become very good at breaking down football film.
I'm sure I am . . .
it’s just one of those things that pushes my buttons. All I ask is if you make a claim, be able to back it up with something substantial (aka proof).

Rob Staton is not a well respected scout by any stretch of the imagination. He’s a guy from England who started a blog. He’s also a contrarian, which is fine if you are right now and then.
Rob Staton has had a few years to hit on some of his projections and he hasn’t. If he were our GM, we would be in a world of shit.
Also he insists on collective nouns taking plural verbs. “The team are good.”

That about sums it up, yes.
That sums it up, but what I will be doing differently, is prognosticating, not just how he will translate to the NFL but to specific blocking schemes.
Specifically, the Seahawks, who run primarily a zone-blocking scheme. I will break down plays containing offensive alignment and defensive alignments.
Believe it or not, but not a lot of pro football fans follow the college level as much as they do with the pro level.

In that they’re based on general perception than full-on context and an actual projection of what’s to come, not that projecting what’s to come would be easy or an exact science, so I treat it as such.
I do agree that it can help a coach sell their program better when they’re involved in recruiting for the next year.
by Carl Shinyama on Jan 31, 2012 8:10 PM PST up reply actions
honestly
so are scouting reports. Class projections are based on scouting reports so do you like them or not?
Yes and no.
Yes because some scouting reports are based on general perception, but also no, become some are quite comprehensive, having scrutinized the player to the smallest details.
However, national rankings are not based on scouting reports. They are based on star ratings and/or the number of recruits that you have signed. Very few scouting services project the entire class for an entire school.

Based on the post here I saw earlier about how the scout points system works
Jaydon Mickens is a four star recruit, which is worth 120 points, and the 45th ranked WR, which is worth 55 points. So altogether he is worth about 175 points. I’m not 100% sure about this being the right amount, but it would move us up to 20th right behind Stanford.

That place is god awful. My sister moved there after she got married. She thinks it’s funny to buy my kids Oregon Ducks pillow pets and mini license plates or whatever. Anyway, Eugene is disgusting – crawling with homeless people, dirty, the people are just weird, lots of white trash. No investment in their infrastructure or schools, it’s decaying. What I am getting at is that nobody would miss Eugene if you bombed it, but I would probably miss my sister. I’d at least miss my nephew, although he’s only 2 so it’s not like we’re real tight. Still, ducks fans have set the bar so low for human conduct I think we can all justify dropping a bomb on them, it just better be a big one or I don’t think they’ll even notice.

just some vague rumors at Dawgman.com
Dawgs are still chasing some guys committed elsewhere, and there could be a surprise tomorrow.
Thing to keep in mind is surprises can work both ways (as we saw with the news about Walker to UCLA tonight) – nothing is official until the LOI comes in over the fax machine.

I must be misunderstanding the dead period then.
I thought the recruit was able to call the coach, but not the other way during the dead period, no?

No doubt
they left both open for a movie. I’m not too thrilled for either. Movies at the end of a show always end up crappy and rushed.
Yea, that was kinda lame..
But Jeremy Piven was epic in that role

Get Showtime, watch season one online, then catch up to season 2. This show is totally worth it!

I actually just watched the 1st episode
It’s exactly the same as the US version, like almost word for word (like the Office when they made the US version). I’d imagine that the first season follows pretty much the same story arc, then they probably branch off a bit after that, but I’m just guessing.
I gotta say
For a “pilot” show or 1st show, had to be in the top 5 of all time “pilots”. Sooo much happened in the first show it felt like forever for the next week to get there to watch the next one.

Yeah
The pilot did a good job of establishing all the characters, and there are a ton. Oddly, the one person they didn’t really do justice to was Frank. Took a few episodes to really latch onto him.
Don't have that, either.
I’m probably going to be cancelling cable some time soon, as I don’t really watch much besides football.

I believe was an early Stanford commit, then decommited but still considered Stanford.

I'd have given props if he threw that in a trash can or something symbolically similar.
The only UW rival that I hate is Wazzu.

At 9 PM they were STILL pumping concrete at Husky Stadium!
GIT ’ER DONE!!!
"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."
"Legends are made on the shores of Lake Washington"
Concrete,
sometimes, once you start, you can’t stop ‘til it’s done.
That was my thought too.
When you are pouring a wall, you can’t just stop in the middle.
"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."

Nah....look closer!
Shane Brostek just ate some rocks and now is crapping out concrete and personally pouring the foundation…

Probably no more recruiting news ’til after 6am. It will seem like forever ’til the news of the faxes come in the morning. Pray that we get real positive news then.

WR or CB??
mickens is only listed at 5-9, so will they likely move him to CB?
any update on RB brandon wilson?
he’s listed as no longer having been offered on scout
The kid from Louisiana?
I don’t think he visited. Speculation is they didn’t think he was likely to sign and used the visit on someone else.
Stupid Question
But is there a fax cam again this year?
As per Sark's blog
http://coachsark.com/blog/2012/02/
Wanted to give everyone a quick update–it’s 11:20 pm in the office and we’re still working hard as we’re just hours away from receiving Letters of Intent. While it was pretty cool for the past couple of years, we will not be doing the fax cam this year. We’ve decided to do something different this year in order to put more of a spotlight on the student-athletes who will become Huskies. Tune in here in the morning to see what we’re doing this year for Signing Day!
