Shaq visited UW unofficially this weekend
Can't be a bad sign, right? Interesting that he did so considering he already had an official visit here in September...

That has to be good news I would think.
Hopefully that means he wants a reminder of why he might want to go to UW since things have changed a bit with the staff since he came up in September.
We’d love to welcome you as a dawn Shaq! Enjoy your visit!

I think it's great news
The fact he is here and not UCLA makes me giggle with optimism.

So I posed a question
Any news on when he came up here? How did the Thompsons and Armsteads meet if he came up here on Friday, or did he fly in after? Just curious really, and does anyone know who else was up here for OV’s?

Ruth put out there
Jordan Payton was here with Shaq, if she’s correct, can’t be a bad thing either..

interesting
Payton was also in LA at some point this weekend unofficially checking out UCLA. Not sure if I believe Ruth on this one, but that would be great if true. Also would point out that Payton’s family must be doing OK to pay for an unofficial flight up to Seattle after he’s already had an official visit.
I know Payton was part of the #CalGang group that Lupoi started and Shaq had been a ringleader for – makes sense that they’ve been in communication, and maybe they indeed did both trip up here together.
There was word that Zach Banner was spotted yesterday at Northgate Mall decked out in his letterman’s jacket and a UW cap – maybe he came up to Seattle to meet up with Shaq & Payton while Kenny Walker (another #CalGang member) was officially visiting? One can certainly hope.
Payton goes to Oaks Christian
which is in Westlake Village, CA. The median income for WV is $120,000. I think they’re probably alright.
also
oaks tuition to go to oaks christian for one year is $26,240. not saying he didn’t get some form of scholarship but if he thats how much it cost to go there each year.
well...
…that certainly doesn’t seem to contradict the rumor he visited this weekend.
His tweets have been interesting too – I believe he visited UCLA unofficially at least part of the weekend, and yesterday he tweeted:
“I love being at home”
and:
“Santa monica california is the place to be”
but then today follows up with:
“It is way to hot in LA”
Can’t wait for Wednesday to get here and the silly season for 2012 to come to a close. Just in time for silly season for 2013 to start… ;)
Santa Monica = Noise Nazi Capitol of the Free World.

I have no idea what it's like for pilots...
…but I really like Santa Monica – one of the nice parts of the greater LA area. The Promenade is always entertaining.
I was just in Van Nuys on Friday . . .
I absolutely love Southern California, every time we are there we are looking for the closest In N Out Burger location. But every time I get a call saying we are going to California, the very first thought that runs through my mind is, “great, I wonder what the noise abatement rules are for that airport”. Luckily, most of the time we are an air ambulance flight and can break every noise rule in place without getting into trouble.

I guess I need to try In 'N Out again...
…I was underwhelmed the only time I’ve tried it, but people swear by it. Next time I’m near one I’ll give it another shot.
We make it a goal to hit similar places.
In my opinion, In N Out is far better than Dicks, better and cheaper than Five Guys, hands down the best fast food burger joint I know of.

I'm a big fan of Fatburger
Wish one would open up in Seattle, but I do get my fix from time to time at the Bellevue, Redmond and Issaquah locations.
And there are definitely times that a Dick’s Burger hits the spot…they’re cheap and minimalist, but that’s part of their charm.
I have only been to Fatburger once . . .
and I did enjoy it. In N Out just seems to have the best of everything, good fresh fries, good fresh burgers, good fast food that is cheap, but doesn’t seem cheap.
I like Dicks burgers, but they do seem like a cheap burger and I really don’t like their fries. My biggest complaint about Five Guys is the price, good burgers, GREAT fries, but the cost adds up really quick.

What's in a name?
Dick’s vs. In-N-Out? Gotta love them both! In-N-Out gets extra points for being mentioned in The Big Lebowski, but gets a demerit for the creepy bible references.
Agree about the Dick’s fries though, they’re nasty.

That's where we differ . . .
I would give them extra credit for their bible references. That being said, all of my above opinions are solely based on the FOOD! I am a pilot, I LOVE food, and it LOVES me!!

It’s been a few years since I was at In-N-Out, but the food wasn’t memorable. Liked the mystique.
Dick’s is a niche and an acquired taste. But when you gotta have one, you gotta have one.
Haven’t found a replacement for Daly’s in Seattle though. Only Big Tom’s is comparable, but it’s in Olympia.
But to bring it back to football, I wonder if that really does factor into a prospect’s decision. You know those linemen gotta be lovin’ them some good grub!
I heard that Ivan makes them give up pop and mayonnaise. Wonder if a greasy burger is out too.

I already feel guilty enough...
just eating a burger, especially from a chain, when it’s breaking so many of my self-imposed food rules.

Not sure I agree that they're better than Dick's
Eagan’s/Big Tom in Olympia kicks both their butts.
Alas! Daly’s on Eastlake is gone. They had some rockin’ burgers and fun pinball machines. Used to grab a burger to eat while waiting for the bus to take us to games when I was a student.

The joy of my job . . .
I normally end up in California at least once a month, which means a quick trip to In N Out. Now that I have a very current memory of Dick’s, In N Out, and Five Guys, there is no question which is better in my mind.
Sounds like we might need another off topic post about burger joints!!

The trick with In and Out is the not so "secret" menu.
9 times out of 10 when people don’t like In and Out on the first try, it’s because they went with the standard burger. I personally toss the spread (foul), add ketchup and mustard, grilled onions, and pickles. The only real criticism I have for the burger is that the patty is not very moist, and that’s where the grilled onions and pickles come in.
If you like spicy, try asking them for mustard fried with chopped chilies. Fried green chilies right in to the patty.
I go Animal style!

In 'N Out has the best burger out there.
Just get it without the sauce (I get mustard on it instead).
Whenever I enter the state of California, I have to find one.

sure
Could be people making stuff up. That said, it’d be hard to mistake someone else for Banner; not only was he (in this rumor) wearing a UW cap, he was wearing his Lakes letterman jacket.
All that said, I fear he’s picked USC.
positive rumor on Brostek
A Dawgman.com member that lives in Hawai’i (and I think he does some high school football coverage) reports he’s heard Brostek told Hawaii players on his official this weekend that he’s coming to Washington.
Great news if true.
This!!!! Is great news..
Along with the Banner news above, a Brostek, Banner, Shaq, Payton, Beaver, Walker class with everyone else we have would really change a lot of minds on this class.

things feel rather optimistic right now
I was feeling pretty bummed about recruiting yesterday when there was a lot of buzz that Shaq might stick with Cal. He may yet, but him visiting here on his own dime this weekend feels encouraging.
I still think we are probably not getting Banner, but you never know. Getting Brostek would be a solid conclusion to our OL class, but man – getting Banner would really be a major plus.
Beaver seems like a lock – I think he’s been solidly a Husky since this Summer and was only going through visits and whatnot for the fun of it.
That was seem to be in really good shape with Payton is great news. And there is some buzz that Walker may flip after his visit this weekend.
Doubt we’ll pry Williams away from A&M and Goforth from ASU, but we can cross our fingers.
Seems like we have a shot still at Cozens and Vatuvei.
I still feel like Banner is staying home, we'll find out tomorrow
And maybe Mickens comes as well. Completely forgot about Goforth and Marsh as possibles. Only 3 days left and we will know for sure on these guys. Did Cozens and Vatuvei ever OV here, and what are the projected positions?

on Vatuvei & Cozens
Cozens visiting in December. Sounds like he’s down to Arizona & UW, possible slight lean to Arizona.
Vatuvei visiting in November. He’ll probably stick with USC if they have room for him, but he’s a guy that might be on the bubble depending on how things break on Signing Day for USC since they are limited to 15 schollies for the 2012 class (they’ll sign a few more since a few guys enrolled early and can count against the 2011 class).
Both are listed at DE in the Scout.com system, but Vatuvei is more a SDE that could potentially play a 3T tackle position.
Not sure if Marsh still has an offer from the UW – there’d been some talk they pulled it, but Marsh has been saying publicly the UW is in his final 3, so who knows?
Mickens is almost certainly going to Oklahoma State.
Interesting about Vatuevi
Curious how that develops, does he sit around and wait all day for U$C to determine? I would think maybe waiting all day would be a drag for him. So it could potentially come down to Banner and where he picks for Vatuevi’s decision. Interesting indeed.

yeah, he might have to sweat out a good portion of Wednesday
We’ll see though. If he sends an LOI fax early Wednesday to USC, I guess we’ll know that Kiffin has guaranteed him a spot regardless of what else happens.
Sure hope they told Shane about the great Hawai'ian grub at the Kaua'i Family Restaurant
I heart legacies! If we get both Banner and Brostek I’m gonna be one happy puppy!

Need Banner for the open LT position
If we don’t get banner we’re going to struggle to keep Teeth healthy again IMO
Don't care how talented Banner is
If a true freshman steps into the starting LT spot, that’s a huge problem.
Agreed, if we get them all
Banner, Brostek, Dean, Eldrenkamp and English (not sure if I forgot anyone) should all RS. That group would solitify the depth for the coming years.

true
That said, Tackle is a spot that’s pretty open. We can assume Hatchie will take one spot, and the default would be that Kohler would take the other, but I think everyone agrees he’d be better at Guard. And with Tanigawa questionable for the season, I wouldn’t be shocked if Banner was right in the mix to start.
Banner won't start right away...
Unless he enrolls early and gets here this spring.

more than likely
But you never know.
I’d love for him to redshirt, but we are somewhat short on quality tackles. And I’d love for it to be something we can discuss in earnest after 2:30, but I’m not optimistic…
That's why you have Elite 5 Star players
They’re supposed to be able to step on the field and play at an acceptable level. They should be Div 1 size and speed from the first day.
Not at left tackle.
If he is to play right away, it won’t be there. It would either be on the right side or the interior.
I agree
That is one of the hardest positions to play in football. I can’t expect him to make an impact right away. Be nice to have him in our pockets for the future though.

Pro Bowl and Alamo Bowl
I wonder what Chris Spielman thinks of the Pro Bowl, it looks like there was more defense in the Alamo bowl. Gotta pass the time some how.
Very Good News! Game On!
Dawgs are climbing…
Kenny Walker
RB/WR/CB prospect Kenny Walker sure appears to have decided on the Dawgs based on postings to his Facebook tonight (don’t worry, I’m not stalking him personally – just repeating info posted elsewhere).
He was the only official visitor this week, and he’s posted a number of things that make it seem quite likely he has (or will) commit to the UW, including changing his hometown listing to Seattle.
Zach says - "my parents are cool with it".
Most pessimists (they like to call themselves “Realists”. I say those people get the best of both worlds. If they’re right they say: “told you so”. If they’re wrong they say: “Great to be wrong:” Win/Win) speculate that means they’re cool with him going to USC.
I, the eternal optimist disagree and say that means; they are cool with him following Kennedy’s footsteps to UW.
Or they're cool with him going to UW
since they met in Pullman and I’ve heard his pops isn’t too high on UW.
I dunno about that
Since WSU was never a real consideration, you’d have to think pops would prefer Zach stays close to home.
This whole process reminds me way too much of when you first start dating.
You like the girl a lot but you’re not sure if she’s as into you, so you oevranalyze every little move and try to figure out exactly what it means, and you realize you’re being crazy but you just can’t stop yourself.
Then you make a bad joke and she quits taking your calls
a month or two later, you find out she’s banging that guy you hate.
