It had been thought that Lakes High WR/DB Cedric Dozier would visit Washington this weekend after Husky coaches visited him during the week and said they would now recruit him as a receiver.

But Lakes High coach Dave Miller said tonight that Dozier did not make the trip, saying Dozier "'decided UW was not the place for him.''

I'm trying to stay optimistic...

…but it’s hard. I’d like to think this class will close with a bang, but it sure feels now like it will close with a whimper.

Kirk

This class is an in state disaster of epic proportions.

absolutely

Regardless of the reasons why, it’s a huge missed opportunity to miss out on so many great in-state prospects. The 2012 class is one of the best ones the state has produced in a long time, and to get potentially only 1 of the top guys is a black eye on Sark’s recruiting.

He’s obviously taken steps to address it – firing the defensive staff wasn’t only about the defensive performance – but it needs to continue to be an area Sark focuses on to fix for future classes.

It’d be a little less painful if he were able to land stud out of state prospects in place of the in-state guys, but it’s not looking great in that regard either.

not surprised

after telling him for months that he could only play DB i didn’t think he would react that well to a last second change of heart

Bummer..but

The kids best slot was CB and UW was honest about that.

I only hope the reason is...

Dozier knows that Payton is coming to Washington and that playing time a WR looks bleek with the depth. Kasen and Payton on the field with Keith would be lethal.

I wish Dozier nothing but the best…

I get the feeling...

That the only reason he was considering a visit was if Banner had decided to go to UW. Somehow i don’t think this looms well for the prospects of landing Banner.

I don't

I think Dozier has realized the reality of the offer. Sark wants 6’2" or taller receivers, Dozier is only 5’11". Tedford likes taller receivers too and I’m guessing if he commits to Cal he’ll wind up on defense just like he probably would’ve at UDub. If he truly wants to play receiver, his best place to play is at WSU. Leach doesn’t put much emphasis on the height of his receivers.

Then you have to look at the depth at the position. I’m sure Dozier looked at it and thought twice about the opportunity. The reality is, Dozier was being offered a chance to play receiver, but chances are he would’ve had to swtich to defense at some point.

My guess is Armstead and Thompson go to UW

Whats the Black Eyed Peas song? Tonight’s gonna be a good night! I hope.

My consolation is our next couple of draft classes should be amazing

but they MUST be amazing or we’re in deep shit. Here’s hoping this new defensive staff can get the most from our current young players for the next few years

He might mean draft classes

Getting kids drafted helps tremendously with recruiting. Kids like the idea of going somewhere they know puts kids in the pros. To me it makes sense. I want to see this young staff begin to put mulitple kids in the draft. I think it helps a ton that Polk decided to enter the draft early. It shows we are putting kids in the pros. My philosophy is: if you are ready, we want you to go from a recruiting point of view.

If he means that, then explain this:
but they MUST be amazing or we’re in deep shit. Here’s hoping this new defensive staff can get the most from our current young players for the next few years

That’s an implication on the affect of future wins and losses. I’m sure he means recruiting classes.

That, and I’m pretty sure putting kids in the draft does not affect future wins and losses for the Huskies. Did Jake Locker and Mason Foster help the Huskies win or lose games this year?

I'm sure he meant recruiting classes

My point though is that I’m sure many rivaling coaches have used our lack of Husky draft picks to work against us. We can eliminate this sort of negative recruiting tactic by getting kids drafted. 4 and 5* athletes look at more things then just academics when choosing a school.

Yeah not a good year

But could just be a fluke this year, we could bounce back next year.

by DawgFan12 on Jan 29, 2012 1:45 PM PST reply actions

we can perhaps afford one off-year

But it can’t become a trend. And it will always be a missed opportunity when you consider the in-state haul that was available…

Let's be glass half guys until after this recruiting class is signed.

OK, we know it won’t be a ‘great’ class, but maybe that’s what was required for Sark to ‘man up’ and hire great recruiters for the future.
and, we may yet wind up with kids that fit well into our current needs; already has for punter & kicker!

Excuse the sarcasm.

But many of you need to stop doing the “I got to go to the bathroom” dance over this years class. Considering how well Sark and his crew have recruited since he’s arrived at UW, all of you need to knock it off. This class is looking very good so far.

I only want athletes who want to be at UW on this team. If some of the local talent this year were determined to go to schools somewehere else because that’s their dream, then it’s not a negative reflection on Sark.

Regent Denali -

While I appreciate those sentiments, it’s hard to look at the “needs” we had going into the offseason 1. DT, 2. OT and 3. CB and say we’ve had a successful recruiting season. Currently we’ve got a commitment from: 1 JC DT, 1 OT and 1 CB?

When you compound that with last year’s class – 1 DT (Danny Shelton – though many speculate the Tupou will play DT) and 1 OT (Dexter Charles) and 1 CB (Marcus Peters) then you can at least appreciate why folks are edgy.

This program will go right over the cliff if we continue to bring in 1 DT, 1 OT and 1 CB every year.
