Softy says...about the Chipmeister
Softy said live on the radio today that Softy heard a rumor. Softy emphasized that it's just a rumor he heard, but says he heard it from a good source. Softy said he is not "reporting" this -- it's just a rumor he heard.
Softy said the rumor he heard is that Tampa had reached a tentative agreement for a five year deal with the Chipster, but then Kelly asked for two additional things, and Tampa said no. First, Kelly wanted a longer term guaranteed deal. Second, Kelly wanted to be guaranteed that if the NCAA drops the hammer on him, and therefore the NFL suspends Kelly, that Tampa would be obligated to pay Kelly while he is on suspension. Tampa said NO WAY.
Looks like Kelly sees the hand writing on the wall so clearly that he's willing to risk making it a deal breaker with his NFL deal. Keep in mind that if anybody knows what really happened at Oregon, it's Kelly.

that's juicy
… regardless, it is a pretty good bet that Chip will never get another NFL offer unless the Tampa situation gets resolved. The question of whether or not his heart is in it has now become a valid concern and is one that will dog him when he looks at future opportunities. He closed a lot of doors in how he handled that Tampa thing.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.

Chipster and a Future NFL Opportunity?
I disagree. We don’t know more than rumors.
He obviously wanted a change, and wanted it now while he was on top. Who could blame him.
I just don’t see him controlling multi-million dollar diva players. He can barely control the borderline recruits who do drugs, steal laptops and drive 120mph without a license. It’s something every season now.
If true, that is indeed the best indication that sanctions are headed towards Oregon thus far because it would appear Kelly is anticipating it.
It’s not much in the way of substance though since it is only expressed as a rumor.
A little bit of a side note: Kinda getting tired of these “anonymous sources” type of news.

Just yesterday a couple of local guys picked up on a fake twitter
John Heyman (not Jon Heyman) reported Fielder to Nationals…they both had to retract when the real Heyman reported the Tigers deal.
Yeah that's what I'm saying
How about the Lakers and Chris Paul saga? It was a done deal, I go to bed, wake up and it was not a done deal. That’s the sort of stuff I’m talking about, that’s a little different than a fake twitter acount but in this day and age the news is instant, even before all the facts are together.

That was a done deal
The NBA just rejected it for no real good reason. But I get what you’re saying.
Yeah I know
it was just the only example I could come up with off the top of my head. Plus I’m a huge Laker fan so the wound is still deep. There have been a bunch of examples via recruiting though.

I don't really buy this rumor, although I'd love it to be true.
But I would be suprised if it really was Kelly that shut down the NFL deal, and not Tampa Bay. Generally, if a coach leads a team on right down to the wire, and then backs out because he decides that his heart is still in college, the team is not going to be happy with being lead on, and is not going to make an offical announcement about how the allure of college is so much better than their pro organization. Most likely, Tampa pulled the plug, and as a courtesy, announced that it was Kelly who pulled the plug, in order to allow him to save face with his old job.

Tampa Bay media
is reporting on the Goodell immunity promise too. This isn’t invented rumorville.
And this is fascinating because the Oregon media was feed a steady stream of “we aren’t expecting any serious sanctions” from UofO sources.
The ducks must be in code red spin mode tonight over at atq, espn, etc…

Very interesting . . .
Not just that somebody thinks the hammer will fall on Oregon, but that the hammer could fall on Chip Kelly himself. It leads one to believe that there were rules broken by Kelly, possibly even rules we haven’t heard about yet.

If This is True (The Chipster wanting coverage for the NCAA Sanctions)... Something Major is Coming
IF, and that’s a BIG IF, the NCAA issue is this big of a deal, this could be worse that the USC sanctions.
Personally, I am sick of the damn NCAA picking on non-SEC top teams like this. The Auburn Cam Newton situation and NCAA non-action is a disgrace. The USC penalties were way over the top. Get real. A 1991 Chevy Caprice? So what if Bush’s parents were helped to live out of gangland murder central? How did this affect anything on the field? Anything?
I hate the Ducks as a Husky Alum, and think their fans are low-life toothless losers, and the guys are fat, dumb and unhappy, but I don’t wish sanctions on their team.
USC won the PAC12 this year Duckies and you know it. If you get similar penalties, and somehow beat SC (you won’t), but could not play for the championship, you’d go crazy.
You would say ‘but how does this affect our performance on the turf?’
I think there is something big here.
Is this a new rule re. a penalty on a head coach from NCAA sanctions? Why has it not affected Pete Carroll? Just asking.
Oregon will be good again this year, and the Dawgs will be much better competition. The fact Chip took the Tampa opening seriously means he has crossed the line and we all know his intentions, just like Carroll did. Recruits will be wary as they were at SC the last few years. Sarkisian has stayed completely away from all NFL interest – he will be at the UW for a least 3 more years.
But, don’t be surprised when he makes the jump.
I heard this on his show
It made me wonder why Chip wouldn’t want to leave even more. If they do get hit with sanctions wouldn’t it be more likely he gets forced out from *regon? Just a thought. I mean obviously there’s a chance that he does stay after the hammer drops and they let him stay, seems more often than not the coach gets fired from the school after something like that happens. My 2 cents

I agree that this is why the rumor makes no logical sense
If he’s trying to avoid the fallout from sanctions, he’s still better off absorbing the penalty at Tampa Bay than he is absorbing the penalty at Oregon.
My guess is that he takes the job after LOI day
or weathers the storm at UO this year and takes the Tressel express to the NFL. Any sanctions aren’t likely coming before this season, and if they are they’ll be appealed. Not only that, but I still think they won’t be very harsh.
Agreed..
I kinda think that’s how it will happen as well, seems like he will scoot next year for sure once sanctions fall.
