Around SBN: Watch Out For Cowboys UDFA Tim Benford

Tony Pauline is giving an update on the senior bowl practices, he does it every half hour or so, at least until the morning practice finished. He mentioned Chris Polk, among other things.

"RB Chris Polk of Washington display terrific straigh ahead speed and power yet shows little in the way of creativity or the ability to elude defenders."

Some good stuff here.

Again...Polk Surprises....

“terrific straight ahead speed”? The power I get…but I wonder is he just trying to force scouts to start crossing off reasons NOT to draft him? Next up: “eluding defenders”?

Pauline is actually one of the few to give him a positive (or in this case mixed) grade so far.

Almost everyone else I’ve read has said that he hasn’t looked very good so far. Disappointing.

Yes, very much so. But the NFL talent evaluation 'mafia' has a strong bias

and Chris is not a perfect fit. Hope he gets drafted in second round by a team w/ a good OL and has a very nice career beating the mafia ratings . . .

I'll outmock Mayock and Kiper

Word is the Giants got a Polk fever and could use the late 1st on him. If Denver wants him, their gonna have to use their 1st, not 2nd to get him.

I actually agree with that assesment

He isn’t good at creating or eluding defenders. He tries to run through defenders. I also think he isn’t much of a blocker. This is what I’ve always though Chris is great at…..

Receiving
Running routes
Power running, can pick up tough yards in most cases, always keeps legs moving
doesn’t fumble…….often, don’t watch the Alamo Bowl!
good balance, gets shoulders lower than tacklers
great patience
sets up and follows blocks well, which goes with his patience
his initial burst through the line is good, second level not so good, but he has gotten faster since at Udub.
