Opening day notes

The first day of practice is always a big day. I will be passing on notes as they happen throughout the day. In other words expect some timely updates.

The Softy Show

Softy says this team should be half way to a bowl game by September. He figures the team should be at least 3-1 by the end of the first month.

JR Hasty is still a Husky fan. The former UW running back predicts an 8-4 record for the Huskies this season while talking the the soft one.

Bob Rondeau says he wants to see this team competitive in every game. That is what he is looking for this year even though the team is still rebuilding. The team is beginning to attain the speed and physicality that was once synonymous with Husky football.

Elise Woodward and Softy think that Kasen Williams should get a shot at returning punts.

Steve Sarkisian Press Conference 12:00 PM PST

"I like the leadership on this football team. I think are seniors are hungry and eager to have a great senior season. This is the most athletic team we have had in the three seasons we have been here. We have better depth than a lot of people give us credit for."

Marvin Hall and Kyle Lewis haven't been cleared by the NCAA clearing house. Antavius Sims won't be able to practice immediately. He still has some work to get finished.

Walk-on's Kiel Rasp, Jonathan Amosa, and Brendan Lopez will all be on scholarship.

Updated Roster Notes

The roster has been updated and there were a couple of changes which raise an eyebrow. QB Nick Montana is up to 203 from 191; OG Colin Porter is up to 322 from 307; OT Ben Riva is up to 300 from 275; DL Everrette Thompson is up to 272 friom 244; DE Hau'oli Jamora is up to 247 from 238; DT Lawrence Lagafuaina dropped down to 329 from 344.

Danny Shelton is 6'1 334 which screams nose tackle which means backing up Ta'amu and Lagafuiana. The coaches think that he could also compete for a starting job at the three technique this year.

Travon Brooks who is a 6-2 246 pound FB from McClymonds HS in Oakland, California was added to the roster as a walk on. Travon earned first-team All-Oakland Athletic League at linebacker as a senior and also started at fullback. He was a teammate of fellow Husky classmate Marcus Peters. Here is a link to his highlight film.

Juco CB Antavius Sims did indeed make it which is huge.

Walkon TE Marek Domanski is not listed on the roster. OT Daniel Kanczugowski isn't listed after being declared ineligible.

CB Adam Long was also missing from the roster but he is still on the team. Long was due to miss the season anyway since he is recovering from a torn ACL. His absence from camp opens up another spot for an invited walk on.

LB Scott Lawyer is listed on the roster. Lawyer was scheduled to gray-shirt because of a shoulder injury. Sark says he is 100% an ready to practice.

Sarkisian is a sharp dude.

The man can really run a press conference.

Yes he is...

…a class act. I really loved Lambo but he was a defensive coordinator trying to be a head coach.

Sark said Jamora is 260...

…and that Lawyer will not greyshirt.

I was impressed with the updates to theplaying weights ofnthe d-line. This group has top 5 talent if they can stay healthy.

Damn, my eyeball tastes good.

Based on the radio reports and blogs sounds if practice went well and the team passes the eye test. Things are looking good in huskyville,

From all the reports I have read and listened to...

Sankey impressed with speed and cutting ability while maintaining that speed. Would love a report from anyone who was there if someone went!
