Victor Burnett gets the boot
MLB Victor Burnett was dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules. According to the UW Daily he packed up all his personal possessions in the presence of UW police. The word on the street is that he isn't under investigation for anything but they felt that he would leave more quickly if the police were there to supervise. Not exactly a great day for Victor.
A little trivia...he is the fourth linebacker in his recruiting class who isn't on the roster....Vic Burnett, Chris Young, Darius Waters, and Brent Williams are all recruiting casualties for one reason or the other. Young and Water are at a JC in Arizona and Williams is now at Colorado State. Hopefully Burnett gets a second chance somewhere.

Wellp...
you’ve gotta make an example out of somebody, I guess. Disappointing to hear, but hopefully whatever happened will straighten the guy out.
disappointing
not a huge loss for the team, as he was 4th on the depth chart, but you never want to lose a guy for doing something stupid
Dear Steve Sarkisian,
So, is this what people mean by accountability?
Co-signed
Kiko Alonso
Cliff Harris
LaGarrette Blount
Rob Beard

So, you would trade your standards..
…and principles for a few extra regular season victories and a winless record in bowl games?
BTW- I tend to type with my mouth closed

isnt the argument that CK only disciplines back ups? looks like you can’t use that anymore.
and lets see how many games Erickson sits Burfict for. if the over/under is half a game – i’ll take the under.
Life is about growth. People are not perfect when they're 21 years old. - Bill Walton
I can't?
Let’s see.
LGB (Star; starter):
starts a fight, goes ballistic, threatens fans and swings at secuity police – FULL SEASON SUSPENSION for embarrassing the team; fighting (turns into half a season)
Masoli (Star; starter):
Robbery – no penalty
Embry (reserve):
Same Robbery – unofficially shown the door
Aonso (reserve): DUI – suspended for season (redshirted)
Rob Beard (starter):
Physically assaults 90 lb woman, lies to police – one game suspension
Matt Sims (third stringer):
Involved in Beard incident by fighting other men who came after Beard – kicked off team
LMJ (Heisman candidate):
Assaults a woman – Suspended one game against an FCS team; incarcerated 10 days
Jamere Holland (underperforming reserve):
Facebook / Tweets trouble – kicked off the team for embarrassing the team (I guess he wasn’t worth the same second chance that LGB got)
Masoli (Starter, but now more is known about DT):
Possession – kicked off the team for not learning his lesson the first time
Marcus Davis (high-rated Texas transfer):
DWI – left Texas while under indefinite suspension; no penalty with Oregon
LMJ:
Caught driving luxury car loaned to him from a gang banger – no penalty
Duck Fans:
Steal Lee Corso Head from ESPN – no suspensions
Duck Fans:
Start fire and damage Reser Field – no suspensions
Alonso (now starting MLB):
Breaking+entering, burglary, assault – no penalty announced (wha???)
C Harris (Star; starter):
Reckless driving; several driving while suspended citations, possible NCAA violation for extra benefits with rental car – one game suspension (remind me, what was Sims’ crime?)
I’m sure I missed a few – this is just the last 18 months. Its pretty easy to see that the stars and starters get all the breaks and the scrubs get shown the door. Masoli and Embry rob a frat – Masoli gets a pass, Embry gets booted. Beard assaults a women, gets jumped by guys who want to protect her and then gets helped by Sims. Sims gets kicked off the team, Beard gets one game. LMJ also assaults a woman and serves jail time for it. While Sims is at home watching TV, LMJ misses just the first game of the season. LGB embarrasses the program on national television and he gets reinstated. Jamere Holland embarrasses the program on Facebook and gets no reinstatement. And then there is the Kiko Alonso absurdity. Can’t suspend him for his second major offense until we figure out if anyone can take his place. By the time Masoli got to his second offense, DT was already in the wings (thank god). Alonso doesn’t deserve a scholarship at Mud Valley St, much less Oregon.
There really isn’t any good spin on these matters other than the tried and true “every situation is different”. OK. Whatever.

Not into 2nd chance opportunities
Players have to realize that a football scholarship isn’t a license to be a moron. Let someone else give him a 2nd chance. We want quality student athletes that know what a scholarship to a fine academic institution means. Break rules and you’re gone. The NW trucking school will be thrilled to pick you up.
All I saw was purple
Doesn't it depend?
There are plenty of times when a person deserves a second chance, and UW certainly isn’t above offering them. Josh Shirley is a prime example of this. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t.
I will say I like how Sark has gone about dealing with problems. He is low key and doesn’t say more than he has to. It remains to be seen how he is going to deal with a high profile incident with a promenant player, but I have faith in how he will address it when it comes.
Benno
Shirley
Was it a 2nd chance offer from Sark or did Neuheisel reprimend him for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. If I remember correctly, Shirley wasn’t charged with a crime. I think Neuheisel flipped out and decided to immediately wash his hands of the drama. Sark merely picked up the Shirley recruitment once again.
All I saw was purple
he did end up getting charged
Seems pretty likely that Shirley did the deed he was accused of. Which is not to say he may not be deserving of the 2nd chance that Sark gave him, but I have a feeling Shirley’s immense talent was a big factor in Sark giving him that shot…
yes - of course it was a factor ...
…. but he, in essence, got kicked off his team and then suspended for a whole year. given his role in this thing, that would seem a pretty fair punishment – more than what Masoli got for a similar incident.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
@chrislandon
Some crimes are worthy of banishment...
…. And some of suspension. Sark has applied the law constantly and consistently. You could be a star (Kavario), a stud (Pulu) or a prospect (Burnett). It doesn’t matter. Sark would rather play shorthanded (as in all season w/o a TE) than compromise. Compare and contrast that to Chip and how he has handled Kiko, Cliff, Beard, Blount, Masoli, the transfer from Texas and the third string DE he actually did kick off the team. In his world, the best players get special treatment and extra chances. His “win the day” mantra does not specify that any principles need be present.

Johri Fogerson
I thought he was a goner but the coaches obviously felt he was deserving of a second chance. Tough to judge any of this unless you know all the details.

his crime was exactly the same as Klay Thompson ...
… and he had the extra measure of accountability by turning himself in. There was no endangerment of any other people (either in the form of bodily harm or incarceration risk). Punishment fits the crime.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
@chrislandon
Is Waters and Young back in the mix?
If these guys can figure out that academics always come first, I would love to see these guys get Juco offers.
All I saw was purple
They won't be back
UW has moved on at this point.
