More Fun With QBs - Combine Edition
I'm enjoying the updates from the NFL combine as Locker shows off his other worldly athletic skills. His two runs of 4.52 seconds in the forty put him tied with Daunte Culpepper as the fourth fastest times ever run (the guys ahead of him were guys like Marcus Vick and Brad Smith). Impressive. I won't mention how Jake's physical test scores stacked up against ... uhhhh .... say .... Jeff Maehl
I was thinking more about his stats and how they compare to other guys who he has been compared with in the past. Some of those names are:
1) Jake Plummer
2) Tim Tebow
3) Brett Favre
4) Michael Vick
5) Josh Freeman
6) Jake Locker
So here are the"best year" stats of each of those guys in college. Mix and match time. Leave your answers below - and no Googling. Hint, two of the six did not have their best year in their final college year ... and not all of them played in all their games or bowl games in their best year.
a) 54% completion, 1281 yds passing, 124.8 rating, 8 TDs, 6 INTs
b) 67% / 2895 yds / 164.2 / 21 / 5
c) 58% / 2800 yds / 129.7 / 21/ 11
d) 56% / 2271 yds / 129.0 / 16 / 5
e) 57% / 2575 yds / 145.8 / 24 / 9
f) 59% / 2945 yds / 136.5 / 20 / 8
Bottom line - hard to predict pro performance based on college stats. Physical skills and personal characteristics are going to be much more meaningful.

4.59
The “official” times for Jake turned out to be 4.59, which was actually tied for third this year, behind Tyrod Taylor of Virginia Tech and Colin Kaepernick of Nevada (and tied with Cam Newton).
Still a good time, but not quite what it was originally reported, and a ways off from the unofficial 4.4/4.35 times the UW was claiming for him from off-season testing.
yeah - I typed that up before the offical times were posted. Amazing runs by Tyrod and Colin ...
… although Colin’s below pedestrian broad jumps were surprising.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
40 speed
What’s the time variance between runs, meaning if someone ran ten times how much difference would there be with the times? Plus or minus .3 seconds? .2?
Especially with someone who isn’t a track athlete?
I just watched the video of Jake running the 40 . . . .
I’m curious how the UW times the players, or more importantly, where they time the players. I noticed that they run the 40 on the field at the combine, I’m not sure, but I’d be willing to bet Jake would run a 4.4 on a track.

stats & times
Locker may be a good pro qb it might be the hardest position to project in pro sports. What is know that he was never an all american or even all PAC 10 pick,
Very hard position to predict
How many All Conference and All American awards did Brett Favre and Tom Brady win?

Hint: Tebow is "B" and Favre is "D" (and that wasn't his last year's stats)
