I've got to wonder...

Can we break this one into two different groups? “Up and coming”…and “starters”? I don’t think you can vote for anyone here on the list other than Price given his status? I mean, how does Kasen make a great play without Keith throwing him the ball? etc. Price is amazing for so many reasons…and he has amazed while gimpy! The dude’s been running at an super high level as a “duct tape” qb…imagine Price with fully functional feet and bowl game on the resume?

I agree

Broke the TD record in his first year and is on pace to break the passing efficiency record as well. I love me some Kasen especially after “the leap,” but come on! If he improves next year along with the offense (both should happen), then we’re legitimately talking Heisman here! How can it not be Price?

by Skeptical Dawg on Dec 1, 2011 12:56 PM PST up reply actions

If Polk were to come back, it'd be him.

Since that’s not going to happen, it’s Price. When he’s been reasonably healthy, he’s been shockingly efficient. 67.4% complete with 29 TD’s? Amazing.

Kasen

a year of experience under his belt and an off season with Ivan = BEAST!

by Snostrebla on Dec 1, 2011 10:31 AM PST reply actions

Kasen.

Price is good, but I worry about him staying healthy and his performances against good teams were subpar. Kasen has a good shot at being a future All-American if he stays four years.

During the middle of this year,

I was really nervous about our offense next season with Kearse, Polk, and Aguilar all going out. But I feel like we will actually get better, with Kasen filling for Kearse as a Red Zone threat. JJ replacing Aguilar as the 3rd down machine. And Kevin Smith adding a new speed threat to our offense.

And don’t forget about Deonte Cooper, he’s been injured. But he was touted coming into the program and should get a piece of the new Callier, Sankey timeshare.

I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Callier featured beyond his current role a la Justin Forsett in 2007.

Deontae. Just a hunch, but I expect he makes it all the way back.

And shows up in a big way. Even being hurt, I think he’s been a team leader of his class.

Yeah...the hands

Drops have become one of those things that seem impossible to thoroughly improve. I think Kevin’s hands will prove to be quite the hardbreaker over the next 2 seasons.

We saw this be the case with Kearse, whose hands only seemed to get worse through his career.

One exception to the rule will be ASJ, though. I felt like half of the balls Keith through to ASJ were always overthrown, requiring ASJ to go above and beyond to even catch up to the ball. I don’t think his hands are as much of a concern long term.

I don’t really agree. He’s a 6’ 7" guy with basketball hops. Throw it up where the defender can’t get it, and let ASJ bring it down. Worked fine.

Keith Price

I picked Kasen because I didn’t see price, but Price is not just “promising” he is going to be our star. Kasen will only go as far as Price.

I agree....kind of

Kasen’s greatest attribute coming out of HS was his ability to make plays after the catch. He will make plays during his college career that won’t require Price to do much.

Even if Polk comes back and brings some friends

It’s still Price.

Price is such an upgrade over what came before and makes this offense work so much better that it really shouldn’t be an issue. Polk enabled Locker to function, but Price enables Polk to have a lot of success. Price doesn’t need Polk now. The team needs Price.

Seriously, whoever voted for any of the receivers? How well did they do when they had Montana or even Locker throwing to ’em. The Price is absolutely Right.

Kasen

Price is the most valuable returning player, but Kasen is the most promising player returning.

What promise does Price need to give?

In his first starting season he almost broke every passing record UW had. In his first year. Against a tough schedule and with being injured.

Why on earth would you think that that is his ceiling? In another year with Luck, Barkley and Foles all gone Price will be the best QB in the conference by default, but there’s no reason to think that he won’t be even better.

Just nuts.

by kalon on Dec 1, 2011 1:31 PM PST up reply actions

It's almost an impossible question...

I see the whole list of guys as “promising”! taking a huge step upward and onward next year “IF” the O-line makes a big step towards dominance? Mediocrity up front is why Polk didn’t get 1,800+ yards…and Price got so banged up (several times) this season! Make no mistake, this offense will be far more explosive regardless of who carries the ball or catches it….if they greatly improve Price’s protection…and open holes consistently. They will only go as far as the trenchmonsters up front take them! So “Team” is supreme. It is that simple. The Price is oh so right!

by gliderdawg on Dec 1, 2011 1:54 PM PST up reply actions

Not that big of a deal.

Both are very promising, but Kasen has a higher ceiling. Not a slam on Price, he is the engine to our offense, but Kasen is more promising.

Is JJ a bust?

He looked like he was going to break out his freshman season, but has pulled Houdini the last two years and disappeared. Honestly, I keep forgetting the guy is on the team. I know he’s had injury issues, but next year he’s got to produce when we lose Kearse and Aguilar.

by Skeptical Dawg on Dec 1, 2011 1:03 PM PST reply actions

Last year he had the ankle deal and admitted he didn't overcome his own adversity.

I’d argue he had a decent season this year and was more a victim of the immense depth we had at WR what with Kearse, Aguilar, Williams, ASJ, Polk, and Smith getting lots of touches. JJ had 26 catches/330 yards, certainly not bad when you are looking at the whole picture. I’d imagine that Kasen, JJ, and ASJ will have a much more expansive role in receiving next year just due to the fact we won’t have the crazy number of receivers.

by kschimke on Dec 1, 2011 1:10 PM PST up reply actions

got injured again

If JJ is healthy next year, he’s our #2 WR and a good one.

by kirkd on Dec 1, 2011 2:32 PM PST up reply actions

He was a 2-star recruit.

Not a bust, persay. Maybe he just came back down to earth after having a lot of initial chemistry with Jake.

Kirk’s right. He’s been “dinged up” the last two seasons but when healthy he’s very good, probably our best blocking WR.

by Snostrebla on Dec 1, 2011 3:49 PM PST up reply actions

ASJ

Ready to take another step up and provide the threat to the middle of the field. Look for Price and Williams to really benefit from his presence. Tough choice between Price, Williams and ASJ.

Ok....Ok...How's about; Keith ASJ Williams?

“Most promising”? What is the promise to be made? What’s the criteria? Stats? Intangibles? It gets absurd after awhile…If the O-line takes a big-boy step towards dominence? which I fully expect….there’ll be plenty of balls and accolades to go around for the “team”! Price is simply becoming an intangible in and of himself! (see Oregon State) His presence and persona are electric. He will be at another level when given time to heal and develop an even deeper understanding/command of Sarks Pro. He will catalyze the whole offense (if not the entire team) next year! The weapons Price should have next year at the ready will be freaky IF and WHEN the O line takes that BIG STEP NEEDED! I for one….can’t wait to see the hopeful signs showing themselves this bowl game!

by gliderdawg on Dec 1, 2011 6:26 PM PST up reply actions

I agree about Price

Very exciting to see what he can do in year 2. The only concern I have is how he struggled down the stretch. All his numbers were down (Completion , Yards per game, Yards per attempt, yards per completion, TD, INT%), but was it quality of opposition or better scouting. I’m hopeful that he will continue to improve the next two years!
