I think it's just a matter of teams being able to adjust

our first 3-4 opponents had minimal film on him. He adds a dynamic that Jake couldn’t and now the opposing staffs are catching up.

Yes nice point anupam. Now that we have a winning record, the other teams are preparing harder for us. Maybe they are now trying harder too? I wouldn’t be surprised if they were practicing even more than normal the week before facing us. This can be easily over-looked by the fans

by OhandTwelve on Nov 13, 2011 12:49 AM PST up reply actions

At the beginning of the season I was worried that our D

never seemed to rise up and play above it’s talent level. Now it seems more like whenever we play a better opponent on paper one big part of our team doesn’t show up. D-Line, secondary, O-line, QB. We have had failures in multiple areas this season.

And now, for my very elaborate and college-educated plan!'

by StuHamm on Nov 12, 2011 3:10 PM PST up reply actions

Wait a minute

8 wins is not guaranteed. We will be favored, but it’s not for sure.

9 total wins with the bowl game would help me feel better about the season. But how are you gonna get dominated by every formidable team?

I don’t want to get lumped into Jerry Brewer’s notion of the fan who responds to losses with, in his words, “maniacal overreaction,” but I really do think Holt needs to go. And Sark might want to think about handing the playcalling duties to someone else.

by PurpleHaze11 on Nov 12, 2011 3:10 PM PST up reply actions

We all knew that

but again, it’s like clockwork. Husky fans continue to resort to blaming the players. Why haven’t the coaches done a better job of recruiting CBs their first two years on the job?

by PurpleHaze11 on Nov 12, 2011 3:29 PM PST up reply actions

because our team used to be horrendous...

Steps baaaaack! OOOOH at the buzzer! Young! Zeke!

So did Stanford

before Harbaugh arrived. Look at his recruits.

by PurpleHaze11 on Nov 12, 2011 3:32 PM PST up reply actions

Stanford also got Andrew Luck

think of where they would be without Luck right now

Still very good

What most ppl don’t realize is that Stanford’s offense is predicated on the power running game and stout D. Sounds a little bit like….. wait for it…. Don James

but they wouldn't be this good... I say they win 8-9 games

we can potentially win 8 games this year…

dude, give it a rest. no one is ignoring the coaching accountabilities ...

Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
@chrislandon

by Gekko Mojo on Nov 12, 2011 3:32 PM PST up reply actions

I will not give it a rest

The Husky fan base, or at least the tone I’m getting from this board, is eerily similar to the tone I felt during the Willingham years. Haven’t we learned anything from that debacle?

Q: Why hasn’t Willingham recruited better?
A: We have been so down the past few years

Q: Why are Ty’s teams getting blown out so often
A: We need better players

I will vehemently argue against those sentiments.

by PurpleHaze11 on Nov 12, 2011 3:34 PM PST up reply actions

you're being ignorant and annoying. stop beating a dead horse.

I enjoy a Husky fan base that stays remotely positive unlike yourself.

Steps baaaaack! OOOOH at the buzzer! Young! Zeke!

by lagoogler08 on Nov 12, 2011 3:35 PM PST up reply actions

Ignorant?

Because I am sharing my knowledge of arguments within the fanbase that enabled the retention of Ty for 4 years? Please, sir, give me a little bit more respect than that.

I’m not comparing Sark to Ty, I am simply pointing out that blaming the past and blaming the players is getting pretty old. I’ve heard it for about 7 years now.

by PurpleHaze11 on Nov 12, 2011 3:39 PM PST up reply actions

I mean what do you want us to do

Start calling for Sark’s head or something?

Incorrect, sir

CODawg brought it up. But I am happy to talk about it if you want to. I’m just sick of hearing about it as an excuse.

by PurpleHaze11 on Nov 12, 2011 3:40 PM PST up reply actions

Positives

What are some positives people can take from the game today?

Ok I’ll start:

For one, we have beat USC 2 of the past 3 years

by OhandTwelve on Nov 13, 2011 1:15 AM PST up reply actions

Ty Willingham

Was a minority. He was facing many obstacles that some cannot understand. He was a man of integrity. I wish Sark valued program integrity as much as Willingham

by OhandTwelve on Nov 13, 2011 1:21 AM PST up reply actions

I've been thinking the same thing all year

i expected him to play like the experienced 4th year player he is but apparently thats too much to ask.

by 206Dawgs on Nov 12, 2011 3:34 PM PST up reply actions

Honestly

I can handle the ire being directed toward the players for this season.

But honestly, I will be shaking my head all season long next year if people continue to blame the players and bring up 0-12. Please, spare me the agony.

by PurpleHaze11 on Nov 12, 2011 3:31 PM PST reply actions

The players quit early today

Just the way it is.

UW Dawg Pound - SBN Seattle

by John Berkowitz on Nov 12, 2011 3:33 PM PST up reply actions

I agree

but how often can you continue to keep blaming the players for giving up? Wouldn’t you feel like giving up after that terrible first half?

At what point does the responsibility of getting your players ready to play and keeping them motivated during the game fall onto the coaches? After 3 years of a rebuilding job? 4 years? 5 years?

All I’m saying is that it’s a slippery slope and we’ve been down it before.

by PurpleHaze11 on Nov 12, 2011 3:35 PM PST up reply actions

you are really sideways on this...

… the motivation issue would be pinned on the coaches if it was an epidemic. The fact that guys like Cort, Sean, Shamburger, Kasen, Polk and Tru came with their hard hats on tell us that many players are getting the message. SOmetimes, some players just don’t get it. it happens.

Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
@chrislandon

by Gekko Mojo on Nov 12, 2011 3:38 PM PST up reply actions

Well then

If those players “don’t get it,” then why weren’t the coaches able to find this out while watching film of the recruits and meeting them in person?

The coaches recruit the players, ya know.

It's the coaches job

to make sure their players are prepared and play with effort. Remember Sark saying time after time after time that his teams would play with “great effort and enthusiasm.” If that’s not happening, I pin that on Sark.

So I guess we’re blaming the players now? Not good enough to play at USC.

by NeuroDawg on Nov 12, 2011 3:45 PM PST up reply actions

Not good enough

to play for USC doesn’t mean they have to get absolutely dominated. There is a very distinct difference.

by PurpleHaze11 on Nov 12, 2011 3:46 PM PST up reply actions

We beat USC two years in a row

with a majority of players who weren’t good enough to play for USC

by PurpleHaze11 on Nov 12, 2011 3:47 PM PST up reply actions

And plus

pointing out that many of our recruits didn’t get recruited by USC isn’t a dig at the players, it’s a dig at the coaches. Ya see the difference?

Not Ready for Prime Time

Coaching sucks, execution sucks, players not prepared …very competive with the bottom 25% of the PAC 12 where the current recruiting also is.

Improved over Willingham era….yes, but almost anyone could have done that.

Overpayed coaching, minimal results………..

Hope for a crummier bowl game opponent.

Just a reminder

“This is an awesome sport to play… And there’s a style and a fashion in which we’re going to do it. We’re going to play with great energy, great effort and great enthusiasm… Today, guys, is just the beginning of me explaining what this is all going to be about. But we’re headed in the right direction. We’ve been through this before. Just follow our lead.” – Steve Sarkisian

doesn’t make them a troll. Feel free to argue with somebody about their posts, but to call someone out as a “troll” means, to me, that you want their viewpoints to go away so you don’t have to face them.

We hit this same midseason lull last year

and ended it on fire. We played the toughest part of our schedule over the last 4 weeks. This hyperbole train is out of control. There is no reason we shouldn’t beat OSU and WSU is still better than a 50% chance. I’ll be the first to say that I thought 8-4 was the ceiling of this team, and by beating 2 middle of the pack football teams we can get there. He’ll, if you told me after losing Jake and Mason last year that we’d be 6-3 and staring another Holiday bowl in the face, I’d steal your drugs and take them.

awful game today

i was watching in a bar with a handful of husky fans and it was a pretty dejected atmosphere from the fake punt through the rest of the game

fortunately we still have OSU and WSU the final 2 weeks and i would be shocked if we didn’t finish the regular season 8-4. i’m sure all of us would have been pretty happy to hear that at the beginning of the year

better?

vs Nebraska 56-21 L
at Arizona 44-14 L
vs Stanford 41-0 L
at Oregon 53-16 L

not to mention losses to mediocre BYU and ASU teams.

the win at usc was nice and the holiday bowl was a great way to cap the year, but it’s hard to say that last year’s team was better. i’m sure this year’s team would have handled BYU and ASU

by B Money on Nov 13, 2011 4:55 PM PST up reply actions

That sucked

That really sucked, but honestly, this was expected. The only shocking outcome this year so far was Stanford. It seems to be that some people here had sky-high expectations for a 6-6 team with a new QB. 8-4 was always the more reasonable goal and the last two games on the schedule are extremely winnable. Three of the last four have really not been
